Acupressure teacher in Michigan

Dear friends,

I'm new to this group.

I'm very interested in learning acupressure technique from someone or an

institute that is highly qualified.

I live in Ann Arbor Michigan. I have not been able to find any mentor

or school that teach acupressure in Michigan.

Can anyone help me identifying a seasoned acupressure teacher in Michigan?

Best wishes

Nader

Hi Nader, and welcome to Chinese Traditional Medicine.

I don't know about teachers in Michigan, but you might check out the

acupressure.com website. You may be able to get a listing there.

BTW, a couple of sample chapters from the book Acupressure's Potent

Points is in I believe the articles section on that website.

Hi, people.

Sometimes I heard something about this therapy and I didn't understand why

everybody call it " acupressure " . ACU, in latim, is " needle " , so, ACUpressure is

" pressure with needle " . But we do it with the fingers!! Then, the correct form

is DIGITOpressure or DIGIpressure, form latim DIGITUS = " finger " .

Somebody knows about this mistake?

In acupuncture the needle usually punctures the skin.

The pressure of acupressure can be done by a blunter tool or any part

of the therapist's body; knees, elbos, fingers, foot et cetera.

dear friend

acus in latin means needle. acupuncture means puncturing the specific acupoint

theu which enrgy channel is unblocked enabling normal QI-blood flow.

acupressure means pressing the specific acupoint so we cant call it

digitopressure. we press the blocked acupoint not any digit. there are 670

acupoints in a body from head to foot according to chinese theory

If " finger " is not so correct and " needle " is much more incorrect, what you

sugested? Perhaps, " Cavity Press " or " Point Press " ?

What I do is shiatsu.

The word _shiatsu_ is Japanese for " finger pressure " .

In all my 7 years study though I've been told not to press. As Ohashi

saids, " just be there " .

I also rarely use only my fingers.

When people ask me what I do and they've never heard of shiatsu I

explain that its an Asian bodywork therapy.

They'll ask " what's that? Massage? "

No. I don't rub.

I tell them that its illegal to say I " diagnose " a condition because

in the USA only MDs can use the word diagnose but I can say I assess

the condition of the client using the same theories that an

acupuncturist might use.

The technique of therapy I do looks like a combination of acupressure

and guiding the client into yoga positions.

(A lot of people wouldn't understand if I said " yoga asanas " .

For that matter, the average North American has never heard of Thai

Massage either.)

If they ask me what acupressure is I tell them its like acupuncture

without the needles.

Most North Americans have heard of acupuncture.

Many North Americans have heard of acupressure.

A more accurate name for what an acupuncturist does (but limited to

only 2 of the many therapies they do) would be _acumoxatherapy_.

When marketing to the public sometimes its easier to use a vocabulary

they can recognise. People can easily read a sign with few words on

it. A paragraph explaining those few words just gets lost in the

cluttler of life.
