Guest guest
Dear all, It started about 2 weeks ago when I was referred to a Chinese doctor by one of my relative. For the last 5 years, I have been seeing many doctors (West and Chinese) regarding to my health problem. It's all started with acne breakout on my face, and than I was under antibiotic for almost 1 year. It helps me on my acne but if I stopped taking it, than I will have another breakout. Nonetheless, I have realized that after taking the antibiotic for so long, my digestion system was different. I started getting this stomach pain and etc. And I decided to stop the antibiotic for good. After that, I have felt than my stamina has dropped a lot. I feel tired easily and feel stress easily. That was when I turned to smoking to release my stress. It was really frustrated when you know you are not well but the doctors that I visited just could not explain why. I did exercise but whenever finish I felt my health was worst. I drank lots of water , but it did not help either. Things keep going on and on for several years. I spent most of my earn- money to visit various doctors from various countries. It was really frustrating. Not until 2 weeks ago, I tried my faith with this Chinese doctor who used acupuncture to treat me. Honestly I have already lost my faith on my health. But I did try anyway. During my first visit, I wanted to test her. So I asked her if she could tell my problem without me having to tell her. Amazingly, she hold my pulse for about 1 min on both hands and told me that I am having this problem with my digestion system. And then I went to tell her about my digestion problem, acne, bad stamina and etc. It was than we started the treatment. She said that by looking at my acne and my stamina, she suspected that I have this phlegm poison in my system. Couple with the bad condition of my digestion system (she compare it to a boiler in which she said mine is not working so well now). During the first treatment, she put needles along the back of my neck and sucks some blood out using cups, I think. I was quite amazed to see this. And then she gave me 2 days medicine. After taking those med, I felt that my body is burning. It was a very bad 1st week. Thanks God that I have passed the 1st week. After 4 treatments (within 2 days span each), she then gave me another type of medicine that makes me spit those white colour phelgm over and over. It has been continuously like this until today. On top of that, she has asked me to regularly do some exercise and stop smoking. I did all of those request cause I just want to feel healthy. Amazingly, after those needles and med, I do not feel bad after exercising. As a matter of fact, I felt energised. Well, I decided to do jogging and I will always spit those white phelgm during the exercise. It has been like almost 2 weeks and honestly I felt better now. Although my acne does not improve so much, but I am glad that I can do the jogging without fearing getting cold after. I can talk without having fear that my voice will become hoarse and etc. Sorry for such a long story, but in case if anybody out there is searching for a cure after long of years struggling, you should try acupuncture. Although it might not heal you, but I hope that it can help you feel better as it did to me. What I would like to ask is, can anybody tell what my problem is? why after throwing those phlegm away, I felt better. If I go to see those west doctors, they will give me antibio cause of infection. Till today, I am still spitting those phelgm, can anybody tell me why? and when will it stop? And also, what can i do about my acne? The chinese doctor says it will heals by itself. Guest guest
I don't know much about your problem, but I do know that you should avoid some foods that make phlegm such as dairy products. There are other foods that help transform phlegm such as almonds, apple peel, clams, garlic, grapefruit, lemon peel, licorice, button mushrooms, mustard seed, olive, onion, orange peel, pear, radishes, seaweed, shitake mushrooms, shrimp, tea, thyme, walnut and watercress. You should be careful about introducing these into your diet, as each particular food item may have other properties which may affect you, especially the peels of fruits (tangerine peel has a lot of adrenaline in it, so it may make your heart race, for example - so please be careful with those). Good luck! darsundarsun <darsundarsun wrote:Dear all, It started about 2 weeks ago when I was referred to a Chinese doctor by one of my relative. If I go to see >those west doctors, they will give me antibio cause of infection. I had to take antibiotics several times a year for severe bronchitis and also had several steroidal medications (nose spray and inhalers) for asthma. (In my situation the building I am living in has toxic mold--I didn't have these health problems before I moved here 5 years ago.) I stopped taking any inhalers when I was able to rest my lungs in AZ this summer. By eliminating coffee and absolutely anything else that I should not eat, this is the first winter in years I didn't get sick at all, except for a very short cold (which has during the past always turned into bronchitis or pneumonia). I attribute that to the acupuncture along with the elimination of coffee and all other foods which don't agree with my body. As a treat, I have mild white tea on occasion, but mostly have water bottled in glass (don't trust the petroleum in plastics). It does take a while for the body to heal itself, so hang in. >Till today, I am still spitting those phelgm, can anybody tell me >why? and when will it stop? Because I have had some problems with allergies and asthma, I eliminated all grains and dairy from my diet a few years ago. Seems to help some, but I didn't see drastic results until I eliminated coffee as well this year. So for me, for phelgm, dairy, flours/grain (except rice) and coffee had to go. I know that that sounds extreme for some people, but I now eat mostly stews and soups from all sorts of organic vegetables and non-treated proteins and am doing so much better, both with stomach, liver and allergies. I am Type O bloodtype and that diet works extremely well for me cutting out white potatoes, corn, and grains. But I cannot recommend anything as you might want to check out the blood-type diet literature for yourself. What is great for one person is not necessarily so good for others. My acupuncturist is a Type A and the more vegetarian diet is fabulous for her. Hers and my diet is sort of opposite in some ways as we have discussed. >And also, what can i do about my acne? The chinese doctor says it >will heals by itself. I had a growth on my face like a dark age spot which my accupuncturist said corespondended with my stomach. After several months of acupunture 2ce a week it fell off of its own accord, just as she said it would. Pretty amazing! Acupuncture is not covered by insurance for us and the cost has been a burden, but definitely worth it. Good luck with your treatments. Its a little difficult to know exactly what your acupuncturist/herbalist is doing based solely on the diagnosis of " phlegm poison " but I can take a shot at it. The first issue is that your acne is likely being given a diagnosis of phlegm poison... that is to say that the origin of you acne is in your digestion. When the digestion isn't working well, it can generate a sort of humidity in the body which can congeal into the phlegm in your lungs or even rise up the stomach channel into the face, giving rise to a variety of ugly oozing sores. When these sores get infected, we call them " acne " . The infection part is what your practitioner is calling " poison " . The herbs and the acupuncture are stimulating your digestion and probably transforming or eliminating the phlegm in your lungs. Between these two actions, you're being dried up from the inside out. > Till today, I am still spitting those phelgm, can anybody tell me > why? and when will it stop? This would be a good question for your acupuncturist. > And also, what can i do about my acne? The chinese doctor says it > will heals by itself. Certainly, watching what you eat, staying away from greasy, fatty, heavy foods will help prevent the creation of more phlegm and dampness (that's the humidity I mentioned earlier). Of course, washing your face couldn't hurt either. There are soaps that leave your face feeling very dry. This may be to your advantage, or not. I share my office space with an esthetician who has many products for acne, though just like in Chinese medicine, we like to diagnose the skin's condition before making any suggestions. So, I encourage you to get a good facial and some take-home products that can help cleanse your face. The hard part is finding an esthetician who diagnoses your face before trying to sell you their most expensive product. Being near Beverly Hills, California, a city known for its EXPENSIVE (but often times useless) skin care, I recognize that the best esthetician may not be the most expensive or working in the fanciest spa. How to find a good one? Very good question. Maybe find someone who will give you a free consultation. Mostly, you'll want to see if they are more interested in your money or in your skin care. That's the best advice I can give. -al. > > Cheers, > > Darsun > > > > > Post message: Chinese Traditional Medicine > Subscribe: Chinese Traditional Medicine- > Un: Chinese Traditional Medicine- > List owner: Chinese Traditional Medicine-owner > > Shortcut URL to this page: > /community/Chinese Traditional Medicine > >
Guest guest
Darsundarsun: Do you have a photo of your face with acne? There are different types of acne, different colors, caused by different factors, and your solution depends upon which type. TCM does cover cosmetology, and you may ask your practitioner whether she/he is trained in this. Guest guest
Dear guys, Thanks for all the feedback, it has been very encouraging. At this moment, I do not try to worry so much about my acne but what bother me is my weak stamina. As my job requires me to travel frequently, it was really a nightmare if one does not have a good stamina in doing so. I am watching my diet now. I am doing more exercise now. I hope that it is a matter of time before I recover myself fully. As for my acne, i thinks it should heal by itself. I am tired of seeing those doctors as well as taking those medicines. but my acne indeed came from my digestion problem. After almost 2 weeks, I have regained my appetite. The medicine given by this Chinese doctor was mean to dry up the 'stuck water' inside my system. I am crossing my finger now but certainly all I want is a healthy body now. I do not want to take my health for granted. I guess in the past I worried so much about my acne till I damaged my body. But after years pass, one should just learnt to accept ourselves as who we are. Once more, thanks all for the feedback and certainly I will keep my finger cross with acupunture. Guest guest
Your low energy may also be a part of all of this problem. You might want to ask your TCM person if your spleen is involved in this problem - spleen and stomach form one ying/yang pair in Chinese medicine, and spleen is involved in your energy level. If that is the case, you might want to look at nutrition for spleen deficiency, etc. Let us know. Good luck. Guest guest
After reading some articles, I reckon that my problem was very likely due to dampness. Jamie might also be right. I learnt that spleen is a very important factor in our body and I might be having a weak spleen. After so many years of taking various kind of medicine including those antibiotics, supplements, chinese herbs and etc, would have caused an accumulation of toxic in my body. During the first and second week, I was having a very difficult time. I felt that my health was getting worst instead of getting better. All those bad symptoms such as shivering at night, gas, acne (another breakout), feeling tired, phlegm (lots and lots of it) just came back to me (together at the same time)!!!! I almost give up and never see this chinese doctor but what the heck I said to myself. After so many visits to those other doctors, what other option do I have if I quit this one? Strangely, entering the 3rd week, I feel lighter. yes, I do. Last night was the first night that I could sleep without feeling uncomfortable. Honestly I do not know what the hell is going on here but it is worth of my money. Finally, I do not know how this will progress, maybe I will not be cure at all or maybe I will. But I do not regret giving myself the opprotunity for trying acupuncture, I think it is an awesome method compare to those antibiotics.
