Instead of the phone book I'd go to <NCCAOM.com> They're responsible for testing acupuncturists in the USA and list on their site who they feel are qualified. Beyond that, Run a search at <google.com> using every key word that pops into your head. (This is something I do when dealing with any medical adventure.) If you live in or near a big city that has an acupuncture school, another suggestion would be check and see if they have a referral list. Mention what's going on and ask if they know of anyone who specializes in your adventure. There are acupuncturists who basically have a master's degree and there are DOMs (doctors of Oriental medicine) who have a higher level of education. Not all acupuncturists practice herbalism also. It seems most acupuncture schools in the USA teach a Chinese form of medicine based on 8 Principle Theory. There's also 5 Element theory. Some schools teach both. There's also Japanese, Korean, French and probably a whole assortment of different cultural approaches to the craft. What I'm getting at is, if one acupuncturist doesn't seem to be helping you, perhaps that acupuncturist doesn't know all that can be offered for a person with your adventure. Your loyalty is to whoever gives you positive results while integrating with the Western medical path you choose. With Asian medicine many things take time but how much time do you have to spend. There's also the AAMA. I have no personal experience with them but if your family gives you a difficult time about acupuncture/herbalism being too weird ... The AAMA people also have Western credentials. <medicalacupuncture.org> Penel
Guest guest
" Carole Drake " <drakecarole wro53: > Thanks, Skip, > So, If I were looking in the phone book for one of these > doctors, what would be the key word...? > Carole Look under the general heading of Acupuncturists. If they have information, then those whose credentials are show behind their names as DOM or OMD. Many LAc/DipAc are also herbalists who've been taught traditional diagnosis and treatment. Some of the states which license acupuncture require national certification by the NCAAOM (I think that's right). If there's no information given, call the office and get information on their background. sue Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard http://antispam./whatsnewfree
