Guest guest
Can Astragalus be taken to support the spleen and lungs in depleted people? Doesn't it support kidneys also? Susie >>Also, remember that coming off stimulants usually requires a bit of a " crash " , so possibly the best thing you can do is offer them means to support the Spleen whilst they are withdrawing. The Spleen and lungs are the sources of Post-natal essence and if these are not working properly the body starts to draw off the Kidneys. Guest guest
Hi, First of all, most of the time a chinese herbalist won't prescribe you a single herb ( I say " most of the time " because there are formulae which only contain one herb but there aren;t many). This is because herbs have interrelated meanings and functions. We don't fit " a herb " to " a symptom " , we look at things as a whole, as a pattern. If you have Lung Qi deficiency with a cough it is sometimes not wise to take Huang Qi (Astragalus) because of its upward moving qualities. A herbalist might use it in a formula but they will take into account what is going on in the big picture and add other herbs to treat the whole person. Really it's all relative to the entire symptom pattern. And it isn't a good idea to self-medicate if you don't have a solid background in tcm herbal theory. Wrong treatment can sometimes take years to fix. My materia medica says nothing about Huang Qi's action on the kidneys, although there is the possibility that that idea has arisen from its function on Spleen Qi. If you run out of spleen Qi you start dragging off your essence, which is stored in the kidneys. bec xxx fredsus1 wrote: > Can Astragalus be taken to support the spleen and lungs in depleted > people? > Doesn't it support kidneys also? > > Susie > > >>Also, remember that coming off stimulants usually requires a bit of a > " crash " , so possibly the best thing you can do is offer them means to > support the Spleen whilst they are withdrawing.
