I would like to second this emotion. When I first got my " hopeless " diagnosis

almost a year ago, I was scared to death. (And I still am at some level,

especially when symptoms appear).

Shortly after discovering the alternative cancer boards, I posted a message in

which I freaked out about a less than knowledgable naturopath who was

prescribing me thyroid supplements with high levels of copper in them. (Copper

promotes angiogenesis in cancer, but is commonly present in relatively high

amounts in thyroid supplements!!! Beware!!!) I was angry and scared at this

oversight and lack of knowledge on the part of a " alternative cancer expert " .

However, when I posted this on this other board (not this one) I was attacked by

a practioner there who really laid into me for not being more knowledgeable

myself. Being scared and angry, I let loose with both barrels myself, and the

next thing I knew I was in trouble with several members and the moderator.

We need to realize that many people that come to the group may have just

received " hopeless " diagnoses like me, and may be very afraid. A natural

reaction of fear is to be angry and defensive. So we need to be gentle whenever

possible.

Hi folks -

When you get a large group of people such as this group, you are going to have

all kinds of unique personalities, situations and sensitivities - and I shot an

arrow into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For, so swiftly it flew, the sight

Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For who has sight so keen and strong,

That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak

I found the arrow, still unbroke;

And the song, from beginning to end,

I found again in the heart of a friend.

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Hugs to all,

Tony

Well, it was not Heckle and Jeckle - they were way too sarcastic. As for Bugs and other Terry Toon characters, I can just picture Porky Pig trying to get out that be-dee-op, be-dee-op, be-dee-op poem.

Jim,

Is synthroid one of the thyroid meds with high levels of copper? What could you take instead of prescription thyroid medication if you had an underactive thyroid? And can you go off the prescription cold-turkey? Or do you wean off using the alternative at the same time?

Thanks,

Cool. Thank you for the reminder. The curse of email - things are sent without thought, things are received in the same manner. No benefit of nuance or social cues. Even the telephone can be bad enough and even with the benefit of face to face contact, humans still misunderstand each other. It's the best group I've ever belonged to and it's because you & set the standard!Love, Mara--- On Tue, 4/7/09, Tony wrote:Tony Consideration of other members when postingoleander soup Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 1:56 PM

Hi folks -

When you get a large group of people such as this group, you are going to have all kinds of unique personalities, situations and sensitivities - and I ask that each of you keep that in mind when posting messages and replies. Some people are more sensitive than others to criticism or what they might perceive as a slight, and that can be especially true when someone is hurting and trying to heal. I can relate to that because the almost constant pain from my indirect inquinal hernia often causes me to be in less than the sunniest and most tolerant of moods!

The reason I am posting this message is that we have had two new members from our group lately. One did so because they asked a question and instead of an answer they received the equivalent of "look it up yourself". Another left us because of what they perceived as needless bickering which begin with unwarranted criticism of another member's post. This has not been the first time such has happened and I am sure it will not be the last with group so large and diverse - but I surely do hope to minimize such instances.

I realize that we cannot please everyone and I don't want us walking on eggshells, but still - I really hate to think of people leaving a group I consider as family and possibly missing out on vital information they otherwise might have received because some of us posted before we stopped and thought about how others may have taken what we said.

We all tend to view others based on how we think and feel - that is only natural, but the world does not work that way and we aren't all the same. Things that you or I may not think twice about might have a quite different effect on others and so I ask each of you to take that thought and this message and reflect a bit on it for the future.

Rose, I don't know about synthroid. In regards to alternatives to prescription

thyroid medication, again, I am not an expert. What I would suggest is to look

at thyroid supplements out there, and try to get all the nutrients in them,

EXCEPT FOR COPPER if you have cancer.

In this regard, iodine is certainly very important. There has been a lot of

discussion about iodine on this board, and there are people far more

knowledgable about iodine than I am. Please read the recent posts regarding

this. I guess it boils down to how much iodine and in what forms.

And, oh yes -- in terms of increasing iodine in your system, you need to avoid

those things the body confuses for iodine -- chlorine, flourine, and bromine.
