Guest guest
Dear Tony.....I have been there and done that, had an operation on L-5, I was lucky to get one of the best Neuro Surgeon in the USA, to trim it so it didn't rub the sciatica nerve, he didn't want to fuse it, or do any more than necessary. Fortunately I have pain free from that Disc, in the last ten years. Unfortunately he had to retire because he could no longer afford the malpractice insurance he had to take out for every operation. I apologize to one and all for my limited participation of late. For the past few weeks I have been in considerable pain due to a condition that is causing pressure on my sciatic nerve. Lookup indirect inquinal hernia and sciatic hernia to see what I am faced with. I fear that there is no solution other than to ultimately put myself in the hands of mainstream doctors to repair the damage - which is fortunately what they are best at, along with diagnoses. In the interim, I am trying to take measures to alleviate the symptoms and postpone the inevitable, but I have had little success and am only able to sit at my computer desk for limited stretches. One thing is certain, I have a much better appreciation for those who suffer from chronic pain and realize more each day how desparate one can become to find relief when you hurt more or less constantly day after day after day! Guest guest
So sorry to hear you are in such pain!It was my inguinal nerve that was "wrapped" in adhesions. The pain used to leave me pale and breathless. The only cure - more surgery to snip off the adhesions, could have meant further adhesions, and/or possible snipped nerve. The resulting inability to feel pain can be dangerous, although it sounds like bliss when you are in the throes. I have never been suicidal, but in the middle of the pain, I would think that dying would be a relief.. Thank heavens for enzymes! Before that I used homoeopathic Hypericum. I would put a tablet in 6ozs water until it dissolved. Then take a teaspoon of the water, Refill the bottle with water, which changes the potoency again. Succuss it to further change the potency - you can bang it down fairly hard into your other hand. The Hypericum would reduce the roll-on-the-floor-gasping-pain from 20 minutes to 4 minutes. Would extra enzynes help the tear heal? 6 B6 tablets would sort sciatic pain overnight, so I could walk upright. Chiropractic was very useful. Can you pop the hernia back in and wear a truss while it heals? That's what an uncle did. He never saw a dr for it. Also 50 years ago they used to bandage large coins over umbilical hernias in babies to hold it in place while it healed. No surgery required then.I love the informality and friendliness of this group. Everyone is so helpful.Hope you are better soon. My prayers are with you.Love, Mara--- On Sun, 3/29/09, Tony wrote:Tony Messages and my limited participation of lateTo: oleander soup Date: Sunday, March 29, 2009, 12:30 PM If the other owners have a limited format like this one, where the messages just run in one long string one after another, I can understand why they want to limit the topics - and I know that we have some members here who feel the same way. Guest guest
Tony, Have you tried acupuncture? It was the only thing that cured my sciatica after trying for 8 months to get rid of the condition. I tried chiropractic, physical therapy, drugs (became addicted to valium), and finally a Japanese doctor treated me with acupuncture. Cured me in three weeks... I had some immediate relief so I continued with it. It was a catharsis for me... because of that experience I decided to study it and have been in practice for 33 years. I highly recommend it be tried before you have any surgery. Guest guest
Tony, have you tried Castor Oil packs for repairing your hernia? I read in a book about an elderly gentleman who had a hernia on both sides of his body, and he treated it by using castor oil packs everyday. The hernias evetually repaired. If I can remember which book, I will gladly tell you the name. I believe he rested from the packs on the 6th day, but I am not sure. Guest guest
I too suffered from sciatic nerve pains. One chiropractor would put hot towels in my back then let me lie flat face down on a "mechanical bed" , strapped my ankles, and made me hold the edge of the bed. The machine would gently pull my legs as far as possible and then also gently push it back while i hold on as tight as possible to the bed edge. This released the nerves and made pain go away. If I didn't watch my sitting posture, like if i slouched, i would get the nerve pains back. I don't know if this is the same thing you have, but it might help you in lieu of going mainstream.
