Guest guest
I'm confused about digestive enzymes, pancreatic enzymes and probiotics. I'm current having some health issues and the common theme seems to be an imbalance of bacteria. First, I had major issues that I addressed here months ago: dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling like I was about to pass out, no hunger, weight loss, constant feeling of pressure in my chest, etc. The doctor told me I had acid reflux and I took some Jarodophyllus (sp?) that I had in the fridge. The problems almost immediately subsided. Most recently, I developed a nasty vaginal infection and went through a course of antibiotics it was so bad. I'm fine now. I do believe that there are underlying issues and that they have not been addressed and merely band-aided. I'm wondering how this is going to surface in the future. Also, recent bloodwork indicated that I'm anemic and that my CA-125 was elevated and at 48 (norm is below 35). This is a tumor marker for ovarian cancer which my Mom was recently diagnosed with in stage 4. A vaginal ultrasound and CT Scan have been ordered. I'm concerned about the radiation from the CT Scan and thinking of doing the vaginal ultrasound first and see what is found and go from there. Yesterday, I went to an iridologist, Ivy Bridge in Tustin, CA and was told that my body is acidic, digestion is poor in stomach, small intestine has too much mucus, neck and lower spine are out, liver is toxic, pancreas is weak, lymph congested, low in calcium, left AND right lobe of thyroid are weak and immune system is low in iron. She also said that I have a bulge in my intestine or colon, I forget, that is touching my ovary. She recommended food enzymes, kelp, floradix iron, probiotic eleven from Nature's Sunshine. She also recommended a daily cleansing drink:1/2 hour before breakfast everyday for 60 days and then every other day or as needed.2 oz unfiltered Apple Juice2-4 oz Purified water2 tbsp Aloe Vera Juice2 tbsp Chlorophyll Liquid1 heaping tsp Psyllium HullsDrink Quickly followed by 1-2 caps of Cascara Sagrada with 8oz purified water and more water throughout the day. With each meal take 2 food enzymes. The prices seemed high on the items that I was familiar at her store, I was confused with the options for enzymes and I really didn't have time that day to talk to someone there about the actual products but I'm interested in starting some sort of cleansing program. I definitely need to do a colon cleanse and am curious about the one listed above that she recommends. She is supposedly the "Queen of Colon" although I have never really heard of her.Anyone have any opinions on colon cleansing? The choices of enzyme products are overwhelming and I'd like to hear what others are using and why. Also, I have seen probiotics mentioned as well recently on this list and would like to know the difference between them and enzymes and which ones to use. Has anyone had an iridology consultation? I know, alot going on here, but any input would be helpful. Guest guest
Hello Rose,Enzymes are produced in various parts of the alimentary canal to digest our food. They usually end in the suffix -ase, but not always.Lipase helps digest lipids [fats]Lactase helps digest lactose [a milk sugar]Sucrase helps digest sucroseProtease helps digest proteins Nattokinase helps break down the amyloid fibrils in Alzheimer patients' brains.Amylase is called ptyalin when it is produced in the saliva, yet it's called amylase when produced in the pancreas and it helps digest amylose, a starch component. [babies are given grains far too early, as they don't produce ptyalin until at least 12 months of age. Perhaps this contributes to the high numbers of allergic children.]I have used enzymes and as a wonderful side effect, the adhesions I had for over 20 years following abdominal surgery, finally healed. Enzymes contribute to fibrinolysis - the breeking down of "scab" material after about a week, as part of the wound healing process.DH uses them for melanoma, and a large black one has disappeared from his chest, another from his shoulder and a third one, on his calf, is in the process of healing. There are many enzymes. If you have cancer, or high markers, the proteolytic enzymes are needed and should contain tripsin and chymotripsin. Many companies omit these two from their formulae. The probiotics are beneficial bacteria, which are destroyed by antibiotics. Notice the anti- in antibiotics - it means anti-life. The probiotics make up about 90% of the digestive tract bacteria in a healthy person. They produce things like acetic acid, bacteriocins, lactic acid and peroxide and which help enhance the immune system by counteracting antigens like detrimental bacteria and poisons. In the large intestine they ferment carbs, especially polysaccharides., which results in votatile fatty acids being produced. They produce vitamins "endogenously" [in the body as opposed to taking vitamins from outside sources - exogenously] and these include biotin, choline, folic acid, inositol, Para Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA), vitamins B2, B5, B6 and K.Garlic enhances the growth of some, yet excessive consumption of raw garlic can destroy others. I don't know what "excessive" is though.Long term use of the herb Goldenseal can kill them.Chlorine, pHARMa antibitics and tetracycline can kill them too. Most sources seem to believe that a wide variety is better than single types - probably they have a synergistic effect. They should be refrigerated. Hope this helps.Mara There are many probiotics--- On Thu, 3/19/09, Rosemarie Geiger <gypsy___rose wrote:Rosemarie Geiger <gypsy___rose Enzymes and Probioticsoleander soup Date: Thursday, March 19, 2009, 8:27 PM I'm confused about digestive enzymes, pancreatic enzymes and probiotics.
