Guest guest
That is up to you. I certainly like it, but would warn that Bromelain, which is a complex mixture of substances that can be extracted from the stem and core fruit of the pineapple plant, is a powerful binder which can increase the absorption of many drugs and supplements - which might be a concern if someone were taking prescription drugs whose doses should be limited. It is truly a wonderous substance though. Guest guest
Bromelain is found in fresh pineapple. It is very proteolytic -- digests proteins. This would include the mucous membrane of your mouth and throat. Cap it up and drink plenty of water. I am a hardnose. I sometimes still take a tablespoon of powder, but I am sure to drink a pint or more of water immediately and brush my teeth also.Bromelain is good for aches and pains. It is good after you have injured yourself, either from over exertion or in such a circumstance as a bad car wreck. It is also a great digestive aid for proteins.Dr. Michael L. Guest guest
Incredibly good for adhesions after abdominal surgery, even those of long-standing - 20 years!. Encourages fibrinolysis. I've heard that it will help the eczema, so I will probably take it forever or eat fresh pineapples as long as they are available. I have found that a friend's niece sells red pineapple (plants) for cultivation in NZ, so I will shortly be attempting to grow my own! All ours are imported and sprayed at the border! I give them a bit of a soak in H2O2, then peel and eat or juice them. Yum!For over exertion, does it have some effect on the production of lactic acid? We have used MSM (methylsulphonylmethane) for such lactic acid. DH received a 440v shock when he picked up a stainless steel conveyor. His arm and shoulder muscles got a severe workout, such as they have NEVER (before or since) experienced!!!The conveyor was turned off at the wall, but the switch was faulty. We put the fast recovery down to the MSM he was taking for snoring! An hour after the shock, liver enzymes were normal and the workaholic was back at work in 2 hours.. It was a 12 hour shift! Either crazy or keen!Maracuja--- On Sat, 3/14/09, Michael Goebel <goebelchx wrote:Michael Goebel <goebelchxRe: Bromelain (Mary)oleander soup Date: Saturday, March 14, 2009, 10:25 PM Bromelain is found in fresh pineapple. Guest guest
Hello Mary,The powder may irritate any broken skin in your mouth. It isn't bitter or nasty to take, but if you have any even slight grazes from crunchy food, it might be irritating for a while. That's the only time I have noticed it - it will find broken skin that you didn't know you had!Do you make horehound tincture? I used to make syrup; mixed it with manuka honey and horseradish. Now we all eat raw garlic each night, none of us have needed the horehound or horseradish. Guest guest
Ah yes, the garlic smell!!!!We chop (not crush) 4 or 5 cloves very finely, stick it in a spoon and put it all in the mouth and swallow without chewing. Then a couple of gulps of water as a chaser and there is no smell in the morning! None of us really worry about the smell unless we are going to be with other people. I love the elephant garlic - not such a fiddly job peeling them. We don't get colds and flus.I like bitter tastes too - horehound never bothered me. Also feverfew. When we are in the garden, we eat dandelions. I prefer the leaves to the flowers. I certainly like it, but would warn that Bromelain, which is a complex mixture of substances that can be extracted from the stem and core fruit of the pineapple plant, is a powerful binder which can increase the absorption of many drugs and supplements - which might be a concern if someone were taking prescription drugs whose doses should be limited.. It is truly a wonderous substance though. Guest guest
Fair enough Mary! I had hoped that the enzymes I take would do that job for me! I am thoroughly told off! Oh well, back to being a real stinker! Must be placebo effect - no flus & colds because I THOUGHT I was doing the right thing. Bother! The elephant garlic is big. Some cloves are bigger than a whole ordinary garlic bulb. The skin has a purple tinge. It was probably developed in Texas! The vinegar tincture sounds good. Would it be OK with apple cider vinegar? It's the only "natural" one I can find. My family has no idea of the ingredients in some of their salads. It's easy to see nasturtium and calendula petals.. DH used to be so conservative re his diet - meat & 3 cooked veg, one of which had to be potato! Cancer in the family changed that! When one DS travels, he tries everything going. His brother is necessarily on the gluten/casein free diet. His BIL goes to the ubiquitous franchised fast-food stores. Imagine going to somewhere exotic and heading for McDonalds!I used to use feverfew for migraine - don't get them any more, but I still grow it as DDIL gets abdominal migraine. Not so much now, as she has begun constitutional homoeopathic treatment. Good luck with the coffee. It's a tough one! Here i'm going to tell you of, garlic is not good if you swallow without shewing it, the alicin and all goodness of garlic comes on as you shew, if you swallow you dont get it, just so you know. Never heard of Elephant garlic before, are they biger, diferent color or what ? Oh Dandelions my favared green, raw, steam, juice, or vinegar tincture on salad yam yam. Use feverfew for headaches and arthritic pains, onother bitter one. Cant get off my coffee yet, working on it though. It took me a long time to knock off the coffee - I have a treat very rarely, someone usually buys me some trade aid organic coffee at Christmas and a bar of Rapunzel Espresso chocolate. That's it, once a year! My motto in life is, we do what we must and not what we like if the powder irritates my mouth, oh well it's for a good reason eh ? lol Thanks for the information though, if it happens i will know why. Yes i make cough mixture with horehound, plus horehound tonic syrup and i drink the tea as well as a weight helper, is good for the heart, coughs colds and many more things, so yes i do. I also eat raw garlic and drink a teaspoon of garlic syrup, and boy do i smell to high havens, but i like the horehount too for some reason, so on i go. Hugs Mary - Maracuja oleander soup Sunday, March 15, 2009 9:16 PM Re: Bromelain (Mary) Hello Mary,The powder may irritate any broken skin in your mouth. Thanks for the information, drinking water after taking bromelain i dint know, so again thanks.. Fresh pineapple i like but i forget to go and buy every time i need it, so having the powder at home is ease. No i have no problems taking smelly or bitter supplements as i'm use to them, for example i take Horehound herb and if you know is the most bitter herb on this planet. Michael L. Guest guest
Yes Mara. I meant to say apple cider vinegar but left out i will not use anything else. I found that the garlic syrup it doe's not smell as mush as the fresh garlic so maybe use that. 1 garlic head, 1 teaspoon Cayenne, 3 tablespoons honey, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup water, put in the blender for 10 - 20 seconds bottle and label. dose- 1 teaspoon 3 times daily, this syrup is also good for high blood pressure. My family dint know about all the things i put in my salad dressing either but had to tell them, because they say if i dint they will not eat anything i make, but in the end i won horey for mums. Elephant garlic sounds like my kind of garlic, we dont have it here in Australia though, with 1 clove you can cook a storm. Ah McDonalds the evil of evils for young people of today, i have never try Mc Donalds in my life so i dont miss it lol.
