Varieties of Oleander

Tony or Anyone,

Ok, I'm convinced that oleander soup, oleander extract and Sutherlandia OPC are powerful natural based medicines. I have some Sutherlandia OPC enroute but am thinking about trying to grow a couple of the plants so I can make my own oleander soup. My question goes to the many varieties of oleander plants.

It looks like a person has any number of options. Any studies or suggestions as to what Oleander varieties are the most potent when it comes to making oleander soup? Easiest to grow? Indoors? Outdoors? Internet supplier for Oleanders?

Appreciate,

Del

There are many different varieties alright. Perhaps you should check in with the International Oleander Society? Here is one link:

As far as I know, all of the different varieties of the common oleander plant (Nerium oleander) will work for making the home remedy version of oleander extract. I am not sure if that is the case with the other variety of oleander, the Yellow Oleander (Thevetia peruviana). Both are members of the dogbane family and both are quite toxic in raw form, but the two are different genera and I am not aware of Yellow Oleander being used for any commercial products or home remedies.

Yellow oleaders have funnel (or bugle) shaped yellow flowers and rounded seedpods with an elevated ridge around the middle as opposed to the okra shaped seed pods of the common oleander plant (which does have some varieties with yellow flowers).

The best source is an organic nursery where they do not use chemical pesticides, such as the one in Texas listed in my book. Rohde's organic nursery www.beorganic.com
