Questions re: Bacteria removal products for Humidifiers

My husband has mild COPD and he is a laryngectomee (no voice box) and he was on his way to Sears to get a Bacterial removal for his cool mist humidifier he uses nightly. I told him to hold on and let me ask the group for suggestions as I recommended using Oregano Oil or Utopia Collodial Silver in the water so bacteria wouldn't build up, but it fell on deaf ears. . Any suggestions would be appreciated and how much to use. He will listen to the group answers better than he will listen to me. ha!
