An article in 12/08 Natural Solutions said that paraffin wax candles produce benzene gas, which is a known carcinogen linked to leukemia. And some imported candle wicks have recently tested positive for lead emissions. They suggest using beeswax candles instead, but I recently read that the honey (and therefore beeswax) coming from China, gets to us from Canada and often has traces of an extremely toxic pesticide.

No more candles for me! Life is becoming more and more drab! Rhoda

Geez Rhoda, its one thing I do daily too! Since my little furkid Cody passed and my dad last year I have lit a candle for both daily. I have heard about the lead at the bottom of the candle but never this news about toxicity from other parts of the candle until now.

Thanks for this info....

No more candles for me, of any kind! When the local Candle Factory caught fire last week, ...everyone stood around and started singing "Happy Birthday", to me.
