I'm learning about spider bites. I saw a bite on my right arm, halfway between my elbow and shoulder. I didn't think much about it. It didn't get red or have pus. I was feeling energetic and moving furniture, so I thought I was simply charleyhorsed from hard work. Wrong!

The Spider bite is now irritating the lymph nodes under that arm, hurting from elbow to shoulder. A new bite when I woke up today, red with pus. I'm paying attention now! Went to my local health food store, where I bought a canister of activated charcoal to make into large poultices. The first one was a big laugh. I had to use masking tape to hold the poultice on, and it dripped all over my dark clothes. With it in place, I bought a couple of ace bandages, and brought in some very old clothes scheduled for rags to wear over the poultice. My skin is black and grey where the poultice is. By the time I finish applying one and cleaning up the staining mess the charcoal makes, it's just about time for another!

This activated charcoal is so powerful, the directions say it will absorb any prescriptions, so I guess it's no supplements, nor oleander for a day or two. I'm nearly out of both the caps and liquid, planned to make the liquid today, but got involved in poultices. Tomorrow, wash all my bedding, sprinkle the bedframe and carpet around with borax. Then get rid of cartons in the house, and talk with my son about the woodpile outside the window. Clean! Spiders!

If the activated charcoal doesn't clear my arm in a day or so, I'll move on to another nontoxic poultice. Has anyone had spider bites? This is no fun! Rhoda

Hello Rhoda,Never had a spider bite, but had a wasp sting on my shoulder. The skin swelled and turned red then brown down to my wrist and down to my waist front & back of my torso, it looked like a burn. I was guzzling sodium ascorbate as though it was water. Didn't sleep for 3 days because of the pain. However on the 3rd day the pain subsided and there was a pink shadow of where it had extended - no swelling. I'm allergic to bee stings but no longer need adrenaline - just 6000mgs sodium ascorbate and an ice pack. Wheals gone in an hour. The charcoal sounds good. Have had both strep & staph infected eczema, including erisypelas and cleared it with Transfer Factor. Never got to the lymph glands. Will try charcoal if it happens again as it is a lot cheaper!I hope that you are better PDQ!Love, Mara--- On Mon,

Hey Rhoda,

Don't you have clay? That will draw any poison out...better than charcoal!

Rhoda,

See my most recent post to Tony. Go to brownrecluses.com for their kit. Works like a charm for any spider bite or bee sting.

Bless your heart Rhoda. I am so sorry you are going through this. I noticed that Tony replied to your post. Follow his advice. He has been bitten by a brown recluse on two separate occasions. Please let us know how you are doing.Hugs,

Around here we keep hydrated calcium bentonite clay ...works wonders for Brown Recluse bites plus so much more.

Maria,I'm sorry you got bitten but you brought back a funny memory of my aussie spider experience: On one of our many world travels, hubby and I found ourselves helping out on an organic farm. As I was writing a letter to my parents back home, the biggest furriest frickin spider I have EVER seen walked across the floor. Seriously.....I sat there dumbfounded and sketched it in the letter I was writing. Underneath I wrote this caption to my spider-phobic dad: actual size. It was as big as my hand!

On another occasion we were backpacking in a very remote section of Panama. I was preparing to do some hand laundry and picked up a wash bucket from the ground. Hubby yelled: " Drop it and back away! " He flipped the bucket over with a stick. AYYYY! Tarantula! Right where my hand would have been. He flicked it into the jungle but it landed short. It then reared up on its hind legs in attack position. Hubby took same lame stick, about 8 inches long and approached it. " Are you nuts? " I screamed. He went off and came back with----I kid you not---a 10 foot pole and flicked that monster into the jungle!

Ahhh nature....Janetnot too many spiders in snowy Canada right now...
