Actually, cayenne is known for its blood clotting properties. If you take cayenne internally, or place it on a bleeding wound, the bleeding will stop.Let me give you the following link on the benefits of cayenne from Shirley's Wellness Cafe:http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/cayenne.htm Hugs,> - > sunray > oleander soup > Monday, December 22, 2008 4:06 PM> Acidopholus OT> > > Has anyone else heard that if you take acidopholus before surgery it > can help stop bleeding? My alternative doctor has told us to take a papaya enzymes prior to any surgery as it seems this helps in keeping the cancer cells from spreading. marva

Um, no. Cayenne is great for any blood problem. It makes the blood flow through the veins but will stop any bleeding via a wound. When I sliced my 3 fingers on the table saw, and was spurting blood everywhere, a soak in cayenne tincture immediately stopped the bleeding. Cayenne stops heart attacks and strokes. It's an amazing herb, called an adaptogen, because it will both promote open arteries, yet stop bleeding.

Renee.

I agree with you cayenne is good to stop external bleeding, i have tried myself many times over, what i read though states that if you take cayenne before a surgery, your blood will be very thin and you will bleed profusely during surgery.

I have sent an email to the herbalist that makes the cayenne tincture for clarification. I will post her reply upon receipt.Hugs, oleander soup , "Gaiacita" <gaiacita wrote:>> Hmmm, I've never heard that. Not to say it's untrue though. Just that I've> never heard/read that. > > Samala,

Oh Mary--never, ever wish you have not written or said something that causes another person to stop and think! I've been pondering your message about the cayenne before surgery for hours now. I haven't looked it up, or asked any of my herbalist friends, because I'm trying to think for myself why that would be true.

It makes my mind work, eventually will send me off on a research binge, and I may learn something new in the process! Even if what you say turns out to be a mistake (not from you but from the person who wrote about it) it could still lead to more information that will benefit someone.

And if it is true--why then we've all learned something!

So see? You have helped everyone. If we don't question what we know, we never learn.

Renee.

i read about cayenne and surgery long time ego, but the subject never come up, when Sun rey talk about probiotics, before surgery i though, probiotics are good, but cayenne it's not, so i mentioned, lucky yerstaday i found the site and sended to the group, so people don't wonder if it's good or bad to take the herb before surgery, when i said i wish i din't mentioned i meant that i scared people of the herb for no reason, and i hope all is well now.

I am not sure about stopping bleeding - they gave our pooch vitamin K to help thicken the blood and stop internal bleeding when she decided to make a snack out of a wedge of Decon for mice, but I do not know if taking it is advisable prior to or after surgery. Much as I hate to use this term, ask your doctor!

When it comes to surgery, the number one thing I would take right up to a day before surgery and then commence again immediately thereafter is bromelain. It can help speed up healing by as much as a factor of 4!

Just be aware that it is a powerful binder and may increase the absorption of other medications.

See my article:

Bromelain - The Wonder Supplement

Be sure to advise your doctor if you take it, just to be sure.

Depending upon the type of surgery, I might also look around for the internal (capsule) version of Dr. Christopher's bone, skin and tissue formula.

I personally would absolutely take colloidal silver before, during and immediately after surgery to both eliminate infection and help repair tissues.
