For someone who has thyroid issues and is on Synthroid, is supplementing with iodine a good idea? I believe the issue is hypothyroidism. I don't know what tests had been done to determine the need for a Synthroid script but it has been 2-3 years now and I don't know what followup, if any, test are being done. This person has ovarian cancer.

Hi Karen

Go to www.breastcancercho ices.org for information about taking iodine. There is also a iodine group that gives out a lot of good information about iodine at http://health.iodine/ In my opinion you are not taking enough iodine and should probably be at least at the 50 mg/daily level when dealing with cancer. Many decide to take Iodoral (Lugols in pill form) rather than liquid Lugols.We also have some very informative articles about iodine up at: http://www.oasisadvancedwellness.com/learning/thyroid-health-articles.html

I have been taking Oleander (pills from Marc) since Nov. 21, 2008. I started with 1 twice a day and

moved up to 2 twice a day. The higher dose has caused constant diarrhea. I stopped it yesterday

and my stools seems better. I don't know what to do. I don't want to quit. I'm Stage

IV breast cancer. Any suggestions?

Also I am taking Lugol's 2.2% Iodine and following the directions precisely. i.e. twice a

week with 3-4 drops in water with a little Apple Cider Vinegar. So how many milligrams is

that? How do I know if I'm getting enough? I'm afraid to take more. Any help with that

would be appreciated.

Thank you so much. This group is great!

Armour Thyroid would

be a more natural thyroid med since Synthroid is synthetic and many have

trouble with this med. Many on the iodine group use both Armour and

iodine very successfully.

Most dr’s do not order the correct thyroid testing so that one can get a

better picture of what is going on. The following blood tests should be

done in order to determine thyroid function:

* TSH -- This lab is only for diagnosis of hypopituitary, NOT to diagnose or

dose your hypo by.

* Free T4 and Free T3 (IMPORTANT: note the word “free”)

* Thyroid Antibodies (anti-TPO and TgAb. BOTH ARE NEEDED.)

* Ferritin (and do stress FERRITIN, not just RBC)

* B-12

* Reverse T3

Adrenals Cortisol levels and estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA –

These need to be done through saliva testing. DO NOT ask the dr for these tests

as testing serum (blood) does not give accuracy.

Hi Rose,

The person might want to look into using Armour which helps more people thant he synthetic. And iodine is needed by practically everyone. We are very deficient.

Lots of good info on www.brestcancerchoices.org as Dr. Loretta mentioned and the iodine group.
