Boiling pot issues

I ;understand the boiling pot for oleander must be at least 12 quarts.

The enamel coated canning pots seem good, I would think ???

I bought one used for $5, and then found it had a patch where the

enamel had worn off, about the size of a silver dollar. The underlying

metal is steel, as verified with a magnet.

Would this exposed patch of (non-stainless) steel be a problem in terms

of boiling oleander leaves for several hours? There is a bit of rust

present, which could be scoured off before boiling.

My other choice is to buy a new pot for about $27.

I really do not think there would be a problem. The main reason for using stainless steel or enamel, besides keeping something from reacting with the oleander and keeping from having particles of something dangerous like teflon and other non-stick surfaces getting into the "soup", is to keep the oleander from becoming impregnated into the cookware you use for preparing foods.

Give 'er a good scrubbing to get rid of any rust and save your $27.
