Guest guest
No, I am not sure it was from a virus - though one was found and quarantined. When we moved recently, the on-off plunger receptacle jarred loose and fell into the computer in a hard to reach spot. We had it repaired and the guy who worked on it said that our battery was probably low because the date reverted back to 2005 when he got the computer turned back on. The same thing had happened once before and it happened again when the power went out. We successfully reset the date but the problem with the email is still there. Very odd that she can open my email messages from her computer but not hers. How would you connect to her computer remotely? We have Sprint wireless service out here in the boonies - much better than the unreliable and slow Hughes net we had at the previous location. Less expensive too. oleander soup , Simon <tanstaafl wrote: > > Are you sure it is a virus? > > The reason I ask is earlier said: > > " The problem occurred when we got back this weekend and found the > electricity had gone off. Guest guest
Since you're asking on list, I'll reply there too, but you'll probably want to take this private soon, but its up to you... Oh, and fyi... I generally charge $75/hr for this ($40 minimum), but I offer it for free (to a point) for people who I see as helping others on lists like this... I'm assuming you're running Windows - what version? On 11/18/2008, Tony () wrote: > No, I am not sure it was from a virus - though one was found and > quarantined. Yeah, this is normal on older computers... Fyi, the longer you leave a computer off, the faster that battery will drain. Some are soldered on, some are replaceable - they're like little watch batteries. I'm guessing that since he didn't replace it or suggest replacing it that yours is soldered... > The same thing had happened once before and it happened again when > the power went out. I'm still not clear on the exact problem... 1. You're using the web interface with Firefox? 2. She can log into YOUR account on the computer in question, and everything works correctly? 3. When she logs into HER account on the same computer, she can see the messages, but cannot open them? If this is true, it sounds like a simple configuration issue, easily fixed... > How would you connect to her computer remotely? There are a couple of alternatives... for just one-off uses, www.crossloop.com is probably the quickest easiest... the way it works is, you download their little program, install it, then launch it. You'll click the 'Host' tab, and read me the code, then I enter the code on my end, then we both hit the 'connect' button, and you have to explicitly allow me in... you can then watch everything I do, and I can tell you what I'm doing (and why) on the phone while I'm working...
