I have a couple of people in my life who have recently been diagnosed

with cancer. I was wondering if it is appropriate to ask if anyone has

any ideas about the latest and greatest (or oldest and best)

treatments for cancer. One of the people is a 40 something mother of 2

who underwent a radical mastectomy for breast cancer that had spread

to the lymph nodes. The other is a 14 year old boy at my church. I'm

not sure what type of cancer he has or how far it has progressed. Any

ideas?

TIA,

Kathy

I feel compelled to respond to this news that a boy of 14!, who is obviously a churchgoer, can continue to observe his attendence in a church, represented by a God that would allow a 14 yr old child to develop cancer in the first place (let alone a 40 yr old mother of 2). I understand that these religious people are offended by my views, but I'm at a loss to understand the blindness of faith, people place in their religous beliefs. If your God cannot prevent cancer from striking his followers in the first place, how can you believe that he has the power to cure that cancer? Is it possible to imagine the grief with which this unfortunate lady prayed to God, in the hope that He'd free her from her cancer? How is it, that He didn't?

Do your friends "believe" in the medical orthodoxies, do they have this same "faith," in conventional treatment procedures, that would allow one of them to have a "radical mastectomy?" Would it have been as difficult for this woman to "question" her faith in conventiona surgery, as it would be for her to question her faith in the religious notions she holds to with such desperation? I can tell you, that I would be driven to near madness, with the fear and horror I'd feel, having to face a serious cancer; yet I would still strongly question the adivisibility of standard surgical treatments for these cancers, without at least exploring my "alternative" options.
