Guest guest
*The Health Plus Letter July 5, 2005, Vol. 3, No. 7 *By Larry Trivieri, Jr. - founder & publisher, http://www.1healthyworld.com <http://www.1healthyworld.com/> *SPECIAL CODEX ISSUE* Yesterday, Independence Day here in the US, two days after a bunch of well-meaning but wholly misinformed and misguided rock stars around the world exhorted their audiences to support more of Big Pharma's drugs going to Africa (see Peter Barry Chowkra's insightful essay on this matter at http://www.naturalhealthvillage.com), a committee of unelected bureaucrats in Rome, Italy gave final approval to CODEX, a piece of legislation which they claim will bring " harmonization " to the manufacture and sale of nutritional, botanical, and homeopathic health supplements around the world. In the Big Brother-speak that is so typical of said bureaucrats and their like, " harmonization " has far more dangerous overtones than the naïve and uninformed might suspect. Because what the term means with regard to CODEX is that soon all nations who are bound by the precepts of CODEX - due to their membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and entanglements in international treaties that serve /only/ the small group of elite, unelected, self-styled rulers of this planet at the great expense of the rest of us - will have to abide my the restrictive upper limits imposed on all supplements with regard to their dosage. But you would never know this from reading the " official story " issued shortly after the legislation was approved, via press release. For example, consider this reassuring bit of nonsense being spewed by Simon Pettman, executive director of the International Alliance of Dietary Supplement Associations (IADSA): " You can't underestimate the impact of these guidelines. They create a global category of vitamin and mineral supplements - in many countries there is no such category in place. " Or this explanation of CODEX, taken from one of the press releases: " Codex Alimentarius, established by the United Nations in 1961, establishes guidelines to harmonise trade in food and although the standards are not binding, they tend to influence less liberal markets and /those without a regulatory framework in place, particularly common in supplements/. [Emphasis added.] (This is the crux of the matter; the powers that be, which most certainly include Big Pharma seated prominently at their table, want to regulate all alternatives to health care that compete with their hugely profitable yet highly toxic, death-causing drugs. By " regulate " they mean " control outright and/or eliminate. " ) And then there's this cheery piece of fluff from John Hathcock, vice president of scientific and international affairs at the US trade association the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN): " There are a lot of people who don't understand what Codex does and how far the WTO powers extend. Codex does not force any country to adopt these guidelines, and the WTO will only force a country to raise standards up to Codex, rather than down from domestic policy. " It should be obvious that both the CRN and the IADSA are shills for Big Pharma. Moreover, what most people still fail to realize is that many supplement companies are entirely owned by Big Pharma and represented by CRN, IADSA, and their ilk, and so are gleefully in favor of all that CODEX stands for. Something that the naïve and uninformed would hardly suspect, given their names. Another example of George Orwell's " doublespeak. " What does all of this mean for you and I as health consumers and proponents of medical freedom of choice? At present, the answer to that question is uncertain? There are those who view yesterday's adoption of CODEX as the final nail in the coffin of free and unrestricted access to health supplements of our choice and dosage range. On the opposite side of the spectrum, others maintain that, here in the US, at least, CODEX will have no effect whatsoever. I suspect that both points of view will prove to be wrong. I further suspect that the PR campaign in the media warning of the dangers of supplements and the need to more tightly regulate (control) them - something that has been incessantly underway for the last few years - will now ramp up to a much higher decibel level. You can bet your life savings that editorials and so-called news stories will increasingly start appearing throughout the media warning of the potential dangers of health supplements (while still continuing to ignore the fact that Big Pharma's drugs, when properly prescribed, kill over 100,000 people each and every year here in the US alone!). And don't expect honest rebuttals to such fearmongering to be able to find a forum in media outlets that derive a lion's share of ad revenues from Big Pharma. (According to health freedom advocate Tim Bolen, more than 50 percent of ad revenues during news shows come from Big Pharma.) In the end, I believe that the answer to the threats Big Pharma and its gambits such as CODEX pose to our health and freedom will come down to a more important question: Are we the people going to accept being dictated to and therefore acquiesce like sheep because we feel powerless and don't know what to do? Or will we finally rouse ourselves to not only reclaim and ensure our health freedom, but also our freedom in general, and in the process restore our governments to conditions of transparency, truthfulness, and limited power? Cynics and pessimists will predict that the former will occur and, in large part, it already has. Optimists will say the latter is bound to occur eventually. I think it's more likely that those who value their independence and individualism will take the necessary steps to create as much freedom for themselves as possible /despite/ the encroachment of freedoms that is today all around us, thanks in no small measure to our own United States' government (Bush and his gang are only the latest usurpers of our sovereignty; his predecessors have been at the same game for more than a century, Republicans and Democrats alike, with few exceptions). Happily, it's actually fairly easy to create personal freedom for oneself. The most necessary ingredient for doing so is self-responsibility. Collectively, we've shirked off self-responsibility long ago, yet I firmly believe there is still enough of us who, individually, have not, and one day perhaps we'll even stage our own Boston Tea Party. Till then, we may have lost a battle yesterday, but the war is far from over, let alone decided. And now, for more on CODEX, I turn the rest of this issue over to Jon Rappoport and Tim Bolen, publishers of http://www.nomorefakenews.com <http://www.nomorefakenews.com/> and http://www.bolenreport.com <http://www.bolenreport.com/>, respectively, both sites I read on a daily basis. First up is Jon. *_CODEX AND THE 4TH OF JULY _*July 5, 2005. As many of you now know, yesterday Codex officially certified its own plan to limit the sales of nutritional supplements. Yesterday was July 4.US Independence Day. Codex's Rome conference had been scheduled to begin on the 4th for some time. The coincidence is too great to be an accident. This was a piece of ritual. " On the anniversary of your independence, we take a giant step toward curtailing your freedom. " America is the most formidable target for Codex, and Codex did not miss the opportunity to make its move on the 4th. Codex and so-called free trade are, of course, linked. One of the faces of free trade is " harmonization " of national laws under a larger umbrella. That umbrella is being built by men who are devoted to a future in which all national distinctions and sovereignties are erased. As I've written in these pages for four years, health and the choices surrounding it are in the cross-hairs of the globalists for a very good reason: if natural health and the means to achieve it are chopped down, what will be left are universally dispensed toxic drugs, illness, and the resulting weakness which will induce widespread passivity. A passive population can be managed with greater ease toward */any/* political goal. A passive population can be manipulated and fooled and herded into /*any*/ future. Codex is an arm of that globalism which has a very specific political goal and future in mind. In brief, it is the rule of the many by the few, behind the cover story of: " We are doing all this because we care about you and we want to protect you and help you and save you from the ruinous conflicts of the past. " You will, of course, notice that much of that language is also used by medical tyrants who seek to impose their pharmaceutical model on the planet. It is war by other means. Chemical war. When at least 100,000 people in the US alone die every year from the prescription of FDA-approved medical drugs, when 2 million people each year in the US are hospitalized as a result of those drugs, and when 22 million serious adverse reactions to those drugs occur in the US every year, you can begin to perceive the outlines of this chemical war. The single greatest resistant force to this chemical onslaught is natural health and all the strategies that compose it. The gauntlet has been laid down. Vitamins and minerals, for over-the-counter sale will be phased out, almost completely, in every country on Planet Earth. The " German Model " of health care will now be the law of the land - in every land. Below is a press release from Diane Miller JD of the National Health Freedom Coalition, detailing the action. Diane is in Rome at the meeting. / " /Press Release - National Health Freedom Coalition: Codex Full Commission adopts Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements in final form July 4, 2005, Rome, Italy by Diane Miller JD. Minutes ago the full Commission of Codex Alimentarius adopted in final form, the Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements. This adoption is the Step 8 adoption, the final stage of adoption for the international Codex guidelines. The Codex Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements guidelines are now official and no longer in draft form The Commission, attended by over 85 of the 171 Codex countries, adopted the guidelines by consensus method. There was brief discussion before adoption taking in comments from a small number of countries and two NGOs. Australia requested adding the word " only " in Section 1.3 bertwee the words " apply " and " in " . The sentence would then read " These guidelines apply only in those jurisdictions where products defined in 2.1 are regulated as foods. " Australia's comments were followed by request from Venzuela and Spain to clarify the spanish translation. Venezuela was followed by China. China stated that every government in making decisions about vitamins and minerals should take into account the dietary limitations of their own countries, that governments can select vitamins and minerals acocording to the customs and habits of their country. China also pointed out that there should be definitions of the sources of vitamins. Columbia spoke up and commented that Vitamins and Minerals are intended for deficiencies and are recommended for health reasons and said that there has to be no exaggerated use of minerals. Egypt commented and offered a clarification saying that vitamin and minerals can be considered if daily needs are not being met. After the countries were heard, the Chairman recognized NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations). National Health Federation (NHF) a world wide consumer organization with NGO status at Codex was recognized to speak. Attonery Scott Tipps of NHF stood and requested the guidelines not be adopted but rather be sent back to commitee for 3 important reasons. 1) According to Codex rules a " purpose " statement must be part of all guidelines adopted and the Vitamin and Mineral guidelines did not contain a purpose. Secondly, the guidelines did not define vitamin and mineral and therefore it is unclear as to what is being regulated. And lastly, he pointed out that the Chinese comments were substantive and according to Codex rules on page 27 of the procedural manual, a substantive amendment request should be addressed at the committee level. His comments were heard. The NGO IADSA was then recognized. IADSA stressed the fact that the draft guidelines should be adopted because they had been worked on in committee for near 10 years and that valuable consensus had been reached in the Bonn Germany committee meeting and the guidelines should now be passed. After all comments, the Chair, consulted with counsel to assess whether the addition of the word " only " would change the meaning of the sentence. After learning that it would not he consulted with Australia and Australia repeated their request for amendment. The Chair recommended adoption of the amendment and there was no dissent. Then the Chair recommended the guidelines be adopted at Stage 8 in their final form and that China submit their substantive amendment requests to the committee at their next meeting. There was no further comment or dissent from any country and the guidelines were adopted. " / /What this means, in the United States, is that as soon as CAFTA (Central American Free Trade Agreement) passes the House of Representatives (it has already passed the Senate), the US government will be forced, by the terms of that CAFTA agreement, to restrict vitamin and supplement sales in accordance with the " German Model " of health care. If and when this happens, the hard won 1994 DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act) will be nullified, and the dismantling of the North American supplement Industry will begin. However, it is not inevitable - the use of / " supplements " / and other / " alternatives " / to conventional medicine regimens represents over fifty percent (50%) of the total US health dollar spent annually. Eighty-eight percent (88%) of US adults use an / " alternative, " / and believe in them. Opposition is already gearing up for the battle. (See http://www.thenhf.com/newsflash_49.htm) This is a battle between / " We the People, " / and the free world's biggest, and worst, enemy - ever - / " Big Pharma. " /Stay tuned... Guest guest
The top ten reasons why organized medicine supports CODEX (the European Food Supplements Directive) -NewsTarget Insider 1. It eliminates access to key nutrients that prevent disease, therebycreating a population of diseased, malnourished customers who willinevitably turn to high-profit prescription drugs. 2. It focuses people on the debate over the safety of nutritionalsupplements, distracting them from the debate over the safety ofprescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs. 3. It makes nutritional supplements more expensive, putting theirpurchase out of reach of more consumers. 4. With the loss of vitamin sales, many natural health retailers willbe forced out of business, and this is good for organized medicine. The fewer health shops exist, the less competition there is forprescription drugs. 5. It establishes a legal precedent of control over not justsupplements, but food. This sets the stage for the future banning ofnutritious foods that prevent disease such as blueberries, broccoliand garlic. 6. It allows for the arrest and incrimination of key proponents ofnatural health (vitamin manufacturers, retailers, and consumers),removing them from the public stage so that they no longer have a voice. 7. It discredits the entire nutritional supplements industry, creatingfear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) in the minds of consumers who aren'taware of the real motivations behind the law. 8. It erects huge barriers to the introduction of new supplements tothe market by forcing manufacturers to spend millions of dollars oncompliance, even for substances that have been safely consumed byhumans as medicine for thousands of years. 9. It sets a legal foundation from which other nutrients can beoutlawed. Each year, watch for the ratchet to be tightened as agrowing list of supplements get banned. 10. It allows natural health critics to use circular logic to attackthe industry. They'll say, "If these vitamins weren't dangerous, thenthey wouldn't have been outlawed, would they?"
