AGRICULTURAL CRISIS: U.S. Honey Bee Population is Collapsing! SUMMARY: by

the millions, honey bees all across the U.S. are flyingoff in search of

pollen and nectar -- and not returning to their hives.Loss of these crucial

pollinators could adversely affect the U.S. foodsupply. In the United

States, bee pollination of agricultural cropsis said to account for about

one-third of the U.S. diet, and itcontributes to the production of a wide

range of fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, forage crops, some field crops, and

other specialty crops.Scientists suspect a combination of man-made chemicals

and pesticidesmay be to blame, but have not yet isolated the exact cause.

This Week: WHAT ABOUT THE BEES??

Farmers across the United States are horrified by the massive decline

in bees, with some areas losing upwards of 90% of their bees for no known

reason.

If this continues, it will develop into one of the most serious agricultural

crises in history. Bees are essential to the pollination of dozens of food

crops. And if it spreads beyond the US, the crisis will become a

catastrophe.

So, what's happening and, above all, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS? This

week Linda Moulton Howe talks to one of the world's leading experts on

this problem.

Linda Moulton Howe is the leadoff report this week on Dreamland.
