Sara's Friend - Inexplicable Miracle!

Hey guys...Thought this definitely deserved another update! My friend

reported feeling less pain once he *completely* quit drinking coffee (of

course, he was miserable with a caffeine-withdrawal headache for about

five days, poor guy, but he got through that). However, he still had

swelling in the duodenal area (top of the stomach) and felt

uncomfortably bloated. I, as you know, was hunting for doctors to take

him to -- I was worried about it being a tumor, or a hiatal hernia, or

something like that, and maybe quitting coffee had quit aggravating it

but it was still a problem.

Then, after about a week, he started to feel pain again, usually at

night, and I found out that, while he'd done everything else I suggested

(I'm continually impressed at how willing he is to take responsibility

for his health--that's rare in people with addictive histories and such,

in my experience!), he *hadn't* been concentrating on eating several

small meals a day, and was still stuffing himself in the evening.

I told him it was just silly to not take this easy step if it might

help, so he did. Two days later the swelling was down to half, and two

days after that it was *gone*! Now it's been a little over a week that

we've been concentrating on getting regular, smaller-sized meals in him,

and he has *no* pain, *no* swelling, no bloating and very little gas.

It's such a mind-flipper, to see someone in such pain go back to being

fine in so short a time!

So, my thoughts at this point...all this stomach pain happened *exactly*

when he quit smoking, which I know makes your stomach more acidic, which

probably explains why coffee suddenly started aggravating it so much.

And maybe letting his digestive system not work so hard (as it was with

the big meals) gave the damage time to heal?

Well, of course we're still being careful with his diet and keeping an

eye on things, but I couldn't be more relieved that he's not in pain any

more!

....and of course I couldn't be much more grateful for all the help and

advice either. Thanks!!
