It's truly amazing, isn't it?

 

I'm a massage therapist north of Dallas and time after time when a

client has chronic soreness that won't go away, even with regular

massage, it's because they consume aspartame-containing products. The

formic acid that the ingredients break down into screw up the

neurological system AND the musculature and these clients are often in

chronic pain all over.

 

Also, check out a book called " Sweet Poison " by Janet Starr Hull. Her

website, www.sweetpoison.com, has a lot of good information.

Especially of note are some of the protocols for naturally detoxing

this crap from the system. VERY cool stuff.

 

And for EVERYONE (absolutely EVERYONE), I recommend a comprehensive

hair analysis test, often referred to as a tissue mineral analysis.

Janet has some info on the sweetpoison website about it, but that's

not quite the BEST hair analysis test I've seen. It's fast, painless,

(they just clip some of your hair and send it to a lab), and you get

your results back in 2-3 weeks. Average price is about $200. It's

often a wake-up call, even for those who believe they're doing all the

right things. Some are indeed, and some actually are not. :)

Thanks for posting this, Elizabeth! I 'knew' aspartame was bad but I

didn't know how bad. I have decided to quit diet sodas altoghether

and see how I feel. Sunday was the first day without them (and I

really don't drink that many...usually 1 to 3 a day). Talk about

cravings! I had them BIG TIME! I made organic iced-tea and drank

that and water but boy-oh-boy did I want a diet soda! Then the

headache came. Migraine-like...the kind that just won't go away no

matter what you do!

 

Today is the second day without aspartame containing

products...NO headache...so far, craving is still there but not as bad

as yesterday. I really think there is an addiction going on here and

very real withdrawl symptoms. It's amazing and pisses me off. >:o(

 

We'll see how I feel at the end of the week! BTW, I use stevia for my

main sweetening agent and a little splenda.

 

Stevie--who, btw, DID finish her last cleanse with her family! (even if

they whined a lot more than me) I'm not 100% perfect yet (don't

think I ever will be) but I continue to make positive changes in my

and my family's life. :)

bad) as aspartame. It was approved in much the same way as aspartame

was, in regard to the lack of objective, reliable scientific tests.

The tests are at best questionable, and at worst, partially

fabricated. Some of the symptoms ppl experience after using Splenda

are pretty nasty.

Last evening after dinner I began to feel flush. My husband commented

how red my face was getting and, sure enough, one glance in the mirror

confirmed a bright red, tight, shiny visage staring back at me. In the

next few hours my eyes began to swell. I went to bed hoping I could

" sleep it off. " How wrong I was.

 

This morning I got up and my face was still red, bright and swollen

with puffy eyes. I am a pharmacist and I have seen many anaphylactoid

(allergic) reactions before. I began to feel concerned that I too was

having one. I have had only one other reaction like this before in my

life--to Bactrim.

 

I went out for my usual morning run but by the first quarter mile I

could barely breathe so I walked slowly back to the house. My right

shoulder was burning so I went to the mirror and was horrified to find

a HUGE 6 inch by 3 inch welt at the base of my neck (see photo).

 

I also felt very panicky and shaky and immediately had two bouts of

diarrhea in rapid succession. After 15 minutes and a cool shower on

tissue that looked scalded, I was having difficulty breathing. I was

seen in the local emergency room where the physician immediately gave

me a dexamethasone injection in the hip and a prescription for Epi-pen

and oral prednisone over four days.

 

At the time I didn't know why I looked like I had ingested a sulfa

drug. My husband and I tried to figure out what was different in my

life over the last 12 hours. Laundry soap? Nope. Cake? Animal dander?

No and no. A dear friend came to visit me in my misery and mentioned

that I had started to flush at church, several hours before dinner.

 

I remembered that I had had a cup of coffee and had tried the new

creamer sitting by the pot. I remembered the Splenda label on it,

which prompted my husband and I to search the Web and we found your site.

 

The description by Marcia in the testimonial area caused me to burst

into tears. Yes, Marcia, there are others like you. I am throwing that

stuff out when I get to church! This reaction that I have had looks

like a drug reaction! I am appalled an " artificial sweetener " did this

to me.

 

Twelve hours after treatment my eyes are no longer swollen and my face

is no longer red, but my neck welt is the same size, same redness and

as tender as a sunburn. There are a few blisters in the welt. Even

after treatment it still looks this bad! Perhaps the manufacturer of

Splenda can sell it as a biochemical warfare agent after it is removed

from the market as a food additive.

So, my unsolicited advice ;) would be to switch to Stevia

exclusively. (If blood sugar is not a huge problem, raw local honey is

also good for applications where Stevia doesn't work so well. Honey

does indeed have sugars in them, but if you get the natural raw honey

from a health food store or a local farmer's market, it's not refined

sugar, the sugars are natural with some natural buffers in them so

that the sugars aren't quite so toxic to the body as refined sugar is.)

Actually, I think the different stevia brands taste different to different

people. I use a brand called Herbal Authority Stevia Liquid Extract and I

don't taste any aftertaste with it at all. I use it sparingly, though....a

large glass of lukewarm water with the juice of one lemon only gets 2-3

drops.

 

I would try different brands and see if there's not one that works for you.

Also use Xylitol as a sweetener.

Hi Sharyn :)

 

Yeah, I did notice a big difference between different forms of Stevia.

I found the liquid kind to have a lot less of an aftertaste than the

powdered kind in the little packets. The packets of Stevia I got had

maltodextrin in them for crystallizing purposes, I'm assuming, and I

reckon that contributed to the weird aftertaste. :) But yeah, a lot of

Stevia's taste depends largely on the form and manufacturer.

Well, I knew it was too good to be true...guess that's another one off

the list. Ok, I am afraid to ask about saccharine... <grin> I 'do' have

blood sugar issues and so I think it's best for me to stick with stevia.

 

Today (2nd day off aspartame) I have no headache, but still have

terrible cravings for the stuff. I will continue with cutting aspartame

products out of my life (and the family's following...yay!) then, will cut

splenda, etc... I don't know if it would be easier to cut all of them at

once, or do one at a time.

I use stevia from the Amazon Herb Company and there is not an after

taste either. It is in liquid form.

Saccharine is an interesting case because according to my research

(the book " Sweet Poison " and other sources) there were like 6 serious

FDA complaints against saccharine, whereas there were about 10,000

serious FDA complains about aspartame. If my facts are messed up,

someone plz correct me... But it seems sort of amazing to me how

powerful of some specific entities are in influencing what we know and

I would personally do it all at once. They're all toxic, and they'll

create imbalances in your body. Imbalances lead to cravings,

especially for things that will imbalance you further. So ironically,

it might be EASIER for you if you cut it all off at once. It also

helps if you generally eat yin-yang neutral foods like WHOLE grains

and (lightly steamed or raw, and never microwaved) veggies. Go easy on

the meats and strong sweet fruits, as they are more yang and more yin

respectively, and you want to balance between the two. (Ever notice

that many ppl who frequently eat lots of red meat are either

alcoholics, chocoholics, sugarholics or more than one of the above??

Read meat is WAY yang and chocolate, sugar, and alcohol are WAY yin,

and they're forever yo-yoing, trying to balance but because they're so

far from center, all they do is end up swinging. By the time they

reach equilibrium, they've ingested so much of the very-yang and

very-yin that it causes problems for their bodies.)

 

Good for you, Stevie, in taking charge and improving your life! It's

hard at first because sweet stuff is so much fun, but it's WORTH it in

the end! :)
