Guest guest
Yes, be very careful about giving up the meds you are on. You are best off finding a Doc that will help you to switch to more natural approach. A Naturopath or herbal specialist would be good, but you need to inform the doc that put you on the meds. I took antidepressants for 20 years and have been off of them for 4 years this month. So I can talk pretty intelligently about that part of your question. I have been told that St John's Wort can be very helpful for some, although it was not for me. I took several different Standard Process brand herbs that were very helpful, but you need to get them through a health care provider, I dont think that they can be sold in stores, although I have seen them offered. You still need to know which ones to take, the formulas are very specialized. I have learned of the effects of food sensitivities on the serotonin levels. Migraines, depression and pain are all treated with antidepressants that " recycle " not really raise the Serotonin levels. Once you find the offending foods, you eliminate them from your diet and the serotonin levels are no longer reduced by the allergic reaction. My allergies are Peanuts and Tomatoes and cow's and goat's milk . Peanut butter has been a staple food all of my life and if you have to eliminate tomatoes and cheese it makes a lot of foods taboo, pizza, most pasta sauce other than homemade pesto without cheeses. Its tough, but if I do eat these things, I feel lousy for a few days. I then must take my supplement with 5HTP and other things in it and that helps, but it has become easier to avoid the offending foods. I can give you more info if you email me privately, put Serotonin in the subject so it doesnt got tossed as spam.
