Guest guest
Hi Hette, Mary O is right...it's a form of torture when you cannot sleep. I had a HORRIBLE insomnia problem a few months ago, and to tell you the truth, still use sleep remedies sometimes. One thing that helped me was keeping a notebook near my bed. Before bed, I would sit down and write out a list of all the things I was thinking about or anticipating. I'd write out a grocery list if i was thinking of it, a to do list, a worry list. That way, I could have it written down and wouldnt worry MORE about forgetting it. Also..stretching before bed, sort of calms me. Deep deep stretching. A minute or more in each " pose " really helped me to focus and prepare my body for sleep. I did find very good success with the HerbPharm sleep tonic, I'm sorry you havent. Try writing things down though. Lots of times, I worry about forgetting all the things I'm thinking about. (also try putting your clock on the floor if you have one...so you wont look at it!) Guest guest
I'm thinking either valerian root, scullcap, lobelia and\or hops. Also I had this problem as well and I forced myself to think of one moderately stimulating thing instead of many things that kept my mind going. Like instead of thinking about how to raise my kids, college work and bills I would design a pretty evening dress in my head and draw it the next day to get it out of my head. That's just my thing though... -Shelby hette [hettenna] Tuesday, September 28, 2004 6:39 AM herbal remedies Herbal Remedies - Sleep problem I think I have tried every herbal formula to help me sleep but willing to try more. Guest guest
The homeopathic remedy Coffea Cruda would be good for that. I would take it in a 30C strength about a half hour before bed. (Don't brush your teeth with mint toothpaste if you use it.) Guest guest
Thanks to all for the great suggestions, will try CalCalm tea and also the homeopathic. Last night was another night from h..l as I woke up at 4am and was still awake at 7am but managed to get an hour more. I think what bothers me most at my age is that I truly look awful when I don't sleep and around the eyes I look horrible (baggy etc)=:Q hette > > hette [hettenna] > Tuesday, September 28, 2004 6:39 AM > herbal remedies > Herbal Remedies - Sleep problem > > > I think I have tried every herbal formula to help me sleep but > willing to try more. Guest guest
Hi Hette, When I have sleep problems I always use Vit B1 (500 - 1000 mg) and Cal Mag which I get as a powder to mix with hot water and drink as a kind of tea. ALWAYS works for me! Guest guest
I also picture myself lying on the beach in Jamaica....listening to the lap of the waves and the rustle of the breeze in the leaves. It usually works. Thank goodness I don't awaken sunburned!<G> Sharyn Shelby Blakely [sblakely] Like instead of thinking about how to raise my kids, college work and bills I would design a pretty evening dress in my head and draw it the next day to get it out of my head. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Ooh yes, I *hate* that. Two things that really helped: 1. Learn to meditate. Seriously. There are a zillion sources for this, but what eventually really worked for me was the excruciatingly simple, powerful techniques in Eckhart Tolle's " The Power of Now " . (That was not meant to be an ad; I'm not affiliated with anybody or anything--but it is a darn good book, so I don't feel at all bad recommending it!) 2. Melatonin. Melatonin, in my experience, will do *nothing* to you, unless you get yourself ready for sleep--then it's just that extra push your brain/body needs to fall over the edge. Make sure you have at least 8 free hours, take a bath, get pjs on, read quietly (whatever you'd do to prepare for bed, in other words), dim the lights, take some melatonin and *wham* -- worked for me every time. And the nice part was, if I had to wake up suddenly or do something, I wasn't " drugged " and could handle it just fine. Best of luck! -ST hette wrote: > I think I have tried every herbal formula to help me sleep but > willing to try more. Guest guest
Seconded!
