Julie,

I have a cat who has been to the vet twice with urinary tract problems in spite

of being fed a raw diet with supplements. He had a blockage a few weeks ago and

I have been diligently trying to find a new way of helping him. I recently gave

him 500 mg. of vitamin c every 4 hours until the urine output had improved and

am now giving him 500 mg. of ester C two times a day. I'm not home enough, but

he does seem to have more output since starting this a week ago. How much dl

methionine do you give your cats to acidify their urine? My guy is 14 lbs and

about 2 yrs. old.

thanks,

Cindy

SAMe alternative?

dl methionine is a precursor to SAMe that is available in pure form very

inexpensively as a supplement for horses--hoof growth and protein

utilization. 1/4 teaspoon is close to 1 gram, dose could be 500 mgs to 2

grams daily from what I've read

http://www.petvetsupply.com/suphfpi015.html

It's also used for dogs and cats to acidify urine and prevent crystals

or stones from forming which is what I've used it for. I've also tried

it on myself and it seems to help mood and cognition. I think it may act

much like SAMe but at a much lower price. Taste is quite neutral.
