With all laws/ initiatives being introduced the view to look at it from is - what does this law open the door to. Hope this helps. We are not a political list here but something like this which can take away our choice as to whether or not we take drugs is of interest to this group. We are free to take action or not......Mary O July 16, 2004 Information Access The New Freedom Initiative (US): Ready To Be Tested? According to a Progress Report, The New Freedom Initiative is a new project announced by the White House to " help Americans with disabilities .... " . But apparently, President Bush plans to unveil next month a sweeping mental health initiative that recommends screening for every citizen and promotes the use of expensive antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs. Under the initiative, every citizen of virtually every age, including preschool children, is to be screened for mental illness. Schools will be used as the screening centres for the 52 million kids and 6 million teachers who attend them. Here is an excerpt from the Mental Health Commission report driving this initiative: " The Commission concluded that the mental health service delivery system in the United States must be substantively transformed. In the transformed system: 1) Americans understand that mental health is essential to overall health; 2) mental health care is consumer and family-driven; 3) disparities in mental health services are eliminated; 4) early mental health screening, assessment, and referral to services are common practice; 5) excellent mental health services are delivered and research is accelerated; and 6) technology is used to access mental health care and information. The model for the New Freedom initiative is the TMAP, which stands for the Texas Medication Algorithm Project - that's right, the state that George used to govern, a project that first saw the light of day during his time in office there. TMAP promotes the use of the new, and more expensive, antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs, such as Zyprexa (olanzapine), which is Eli Lilly's best selling drug. It grossed $4.28bn in 2003, with 70 per cent of the revenues paid for by government agencies such as Medicare and Medicaid. " Critics say the plan protects the profits of drug companies at the expense of the public. b>Will you pass George's mental health test? Screening programs are already under way. Guest guest
That's what they said about vaccinations too. Imagine it through the Eli Lily's eyes. Chicago is screening a mass population for new customers. If they find any, do you think they would offer herbal remedies along side with the legal drugs? Would they even mention Naturopathic avenues? It is widely known that if the success rate of pharmo's were a grade in school, they would be failing. But this is not about helping people, it's about finding another cash cow. Guest guest
Hmm this is a hard area for me. I went through a period of suicidal attempts when I was in my early teens and then had severe postpartum depression after my 3rd child. All had to do with growing up in a home with an alcoholic mother and a verbal, emotional, physicaly abusive father and being raped at the age of 14 and 16 by men in there 30's and I will tell you that every time I have a low day or was crying at our most recent childs doctors apt because of his 3 month colick that they auto lable me with Depression and Mental problems for the rest of my life. I have not taken any medication in the past two years and am feeling better then I have ever felt in my life. In the case that this is supposedly showing ... I would constantly be asked about how my so called depression is doing for the rest of my life wether this bill is passed or not because doctors auto labled me with it. Instead I choose to look at myself as a survivor and a very strong one at that. If this is truely what is being passed then it is very very sad to me .. the " saying " that new drugs are better is proven to be false by man including myself as they tried so many different drugs with me and none ever worked . HA Maybe thats because there is nothing wrong with " most " so called depressed peoples seretonin levels. It all has to do with proper care of self physical and emotionally and putting one self around positive people and making positive decissions. If people were supposedly born with this " Illness " as they call it, wouldn't they have known a test by now of what a normal amt of seretonin and compare it to a persons actually seretonin tests before they just auto prescribe a pill. I am sorry like I said this is a touchy subject and maybe this letter belongs being sent to the gvt or something. Guest guest
Hi Christy, Well, I don't think you will get much agreement to your wish for drugs on this list LOL St John's Wort is in fact not a herb meant to handle depression, so I'm not surprised to hear it didn't work. I would start with the Total Nutrition ( see files) if I were you. It really does lift the spirits - at least, that is my experience with it :-) love Lisa - Christy Wyrtzen herbal remedies Saturday, September 11, 2004 11:17 PM RE: Herbal Remedies - VITAL EMERGENCY ! ! ! - This concerns YOU ! ! !/ DEANNA & LAINIE I wish someone would screen me. Guest guest
Hi Christy, There is a better way, and I hope you stay and learn. I also hope you give some serious thought to what others on this list have suggested. Especially healthy eating, and I would include exercise. You say you've been battling depression since you were 5 and you were eating right then. It is highly unlikely that you were eating right then. Most children are fed tons of junk food, pesticide ridden fruits and vegetables, hormone and drug ridden meats and dairy, and refined grains. So, unless you were very lucky and had highly health aware parents, you were never eating right. In order for your mind to be healthy, your body needs to be healthy. It is all connected, and all these chemicals and hormones in the foods we eat create no end of problems for us. I know the prospect of changing your eating habits and getting some exercise probably seems overwhelming to you right now, but you can do it. It isn't easy, but it is worth every ounce of effort in the long run. There are herbs and supplements that I have no doubt can help you too, but unless you quit poisoning your body with the foods you eat, there will be only temporary relief. I wish you all the best. Loveand hugs, RoniChristy Wyrtzen <c29wyrtzen wrote: I was trying to find a better way to live ect. But I think I'm going to have to find another way. I'm not sure my thinking belongs here. Guest guest
A better way, usually means changing your lifestyle in some fashion. Like you I used to think that if I gave up all those "comfort foods" I'd be lost, but it did not happen that way. I found new "comfort foods" that were better for my body. I made the changes gradually - like I think most people on this list did. I'm still making changes. There are a lot of people on this list who have been to hell and back both with depression and physical illness. They made life changes that worked for them. Everyone here, has a story to tell about how they managed to regain control of their health. This is a Natropathy List run by a Naturopathic doctor. Naturopathy works by treating the cause of the disease, with diet, herbs, exercise, and other various methods, not the symptoms of disease with medication. This involves lifestyle changes. I don't think anyone is saying that you are not welcome here, but, like myself, are wondering what you are looking for. This is not a list where you will find a quick fix for all that ails you, but instead the focus is on long-term health. My advice to you is this - Email Doc off-list and order his tape. His email is at the bottom of each e-mail. You can take baby steps. Every little thing you do to better your health is a step in the right direction. It really does start with the basics, treating yourself from the inside out. It's not easy, but it can be done - and the rewards are wonderful. Guest guest
So just to be clear you are saying "I wish someone would violate my civil rights and invade my privacy so that I can get some mind altering poison for free"? I have also crawled out from under massive depression and even psychosis WITHOUT medication. I know that the medication can make it seem like you are in a better place but in reality you are not dealing with your problems that got you there in the 1st place. If you want the whole grueling story I can email it to you off list or if there is anybody else out there that wants it, I will put it on list. It's not about meds, it's about dealing with life's crap. Guest guest
We are all about helping people help themselves. If you are dedicated to the drugs and the junk food then I'm sorry but there is nothing we can do for you. If you are interested in a real life change and being free from the vicious cycle then you have come to the right place. It's your decision, and I mean that in the most clear sense of the word. It is not a choice that is made for you by your surroundings, this is something in which you have complete control.
