I'm also just starting my own herbal cabinet, as well as making my

own tinctures and salves.

I have begun to keep marshmallow root, slippery elm and echinacea on

hand. I have echinacea currently steeping in alcohol for a tincture

during cold and flu season. Marshmallow and slippery elm can be

mixed to make a good throat soothing tea.

I have made and have on hand arnica oil (Simple infusion with olive

oil from macerated flower and leaves) for achey muscles, inflammation

or pain. My significant other and I have a condition that causes

inflamation in our arches...it works wonders.

Peppermint leaves and chammomile are in my cupboard for stomach

soothing properties as well as valerian root and catnip to make sleep

tonics for my insomnia.

I'll let you know as I get more stock! :)

Best!

Thank you, where do you buy the things to make your own tinctures. I

am very interested in doing htis. Can most of our beloved herbs be

grown at home or is it better to buy them from bark. Or do you use the

" just add alcohol " made ones.

I purchase my herbs from a supplier near here (I happen to live near

Salem where there are lots of herb stores). I've found a good

supplier online www.mountainroseherbs.com but have yet to purchase.

I also purchased a bunch of amber dropper bottles to store the

tinctures in since they shoudlnt be exposed to light.

I just add the herbs to the 100 proof alcohol and let it sit for at

least two weeks, then strain and bottle it. I've only done it a few

times though, i'm learning more. :) I'm sure others here will have

osme ideas!

fresh vs. dry also depends on the recipe. Sometimes, fresh herbs

introduce water into oils and such, which will encourage mold. baaaad

news.

best!

Thanks for sharing this website.I've been lurking and very interested in 'making my own' but didn't know where to find the ingredients. I live in north central Arkansas and many things are growing wild here which I'm learning to identify. But I've only made one salve using dandelion, yellow dock & plantain.
