Guest guest
Hi Karen & Group, Regarding ear treatment, it is advised to be certain that the ear drum is NOT ruptured prior to administering any solution into the ear canal, as serious problems can result - irreversible *deafness* and even *loss of equilibrium*. There's quite a bit of helpful information on ear remedies here: http://www.itsfortheanimals.com/BLUE.HTM Your veterinarian should first examine the status of your dog's ear canal, and check for any tumors or foreign bodies (such as foxtails). You may want to have the vet take a smear under a microscope to detect bacteria, yeast or mites, and then do a culture & sensitivity test. My dogs and cats have never had ear problems and for more than 9 years they have been fed some organic grains in their homemade food. All the Best, Helen Helen L. I don't know that this qualifies as " herbal " but I have Irish Water Spaniels (floppy ears with heavy coats and they LOVE to swim). The best cleaner/drying agent I've ever used is vodka (as high a proof as possible) with boric acid. I typically make a 2 cups at a time. 1 3/4 cups vodka and 3/4 cup of Boric Acid... you can cut it down with some water if the ears are infected or tender since it can sting slightly. I am tired of paying $27 for a small bottle from the vet. Thanks, Karen
