Hello everyone,

We just had some terrible news. My step-daughter tried to commit

suicide last Thursday night. Her husband found her in bed with her

wrists slit. He called the police and they locked her up in the

hospital for a couple days. Now she's out and he's taking her to a

naturopathic doctor( which she doesn't want to do). Our question is

what is the ND likely to do for her? We are believers in natural

methods, so we are thankful for Nathan(hubby). We are terrified that

she doesn't want to live and as soon as she's left alone she will try

again. What can we suggest to him to give her?

Hey Lisa

OUCH! Been there and understand her pain.

It would be a good idea to have her thyroid and adrenal functions checked. There is a slew of info out there regarding low thyroid and tired/fatigued adrenals and how they cause so many emotional issues for people, esp women. Unfortunately, like many things, the medical community is not totally on board. They may test for thyroid and find it "normal" but her symptoms could indicate that they are not normal.

Ok. that is enough for a start. Being one who has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts/gestures for years, I have done all I know how to do to find "freedom" from that madness. LONG ROAD to recovery as it does involve physical, emotional, social AND spiritual! ;o)

Email me off line if you would like so we will not get too far OT

I know how absolutely depressed I get when I'm constipated and full of

toxins. I'd clean out her colon and liver but that's just me. I'm just a

herbal baby.

yes, i had also thought about the liver and colon but figured someone else would cover that topic...

oh, how intricate our systems are....;o) - meaning that there are so many "causes" for depression that require an eclectic approach to healing....

on another list, i just read that low magnesium causes depression...

and toxic livers

and low thyroid

and low progesterone

and unforgiveness and resentment and fear

and...and...and....

see? oh so many many approaches. like anything we simply have to "keep trying on the shoe" until we find the one that truly fits our bodies! *smile*

I would get her into Al-Anon immediately. A great majority of

suicides have a direct link to growing up in an alcoholic/addictive

home. At the same time, you can address the chemical

imbalances, e.g. the pancreatic and serotonin challenges, in a

holistic manner with a naturopath.

Thanks Karen,

She is only 22 and just finished Massage Therapy school in Oregon.

Iknow that she is aware of natural methods because her teachers were

all NDs and Acupuncturists. However she refuses to adopt better

nutrition and eats only junk food:( I will talk to her hubby and let

him know about the thyroid. They are struggling spiritually and that

is what is screaming at me in the back of my head. I have e-mailed

you off list so we can continue this discussion there:)

Thanks Candace,

I wish she would do a cleanse, but this girl is a long time junk food

junkie. She also is not talking to me right now. I'm not alone

though, she has shut out everyone except those that don't 'threaten'

her. I'm definately on the threatening list:) She knows I will tell

it like it is. It may be better that we don't talk right now. I

wouldn't want to push her while she's so delicate.

Anyway, I'll talk to hubby about it. He's non-threatening:)

Yeah, besides my constipation and toxins in my system it was my inability to

cope and handle stress that had me suicidal and al-anon helped ME a lot. I

was going to suggest it earlier but wasn't sure if she was in that type of

environment.
