You're listening to your body.

Someone at work told me her doctor said Pilates is very good for back problems. Anyone here recommend it? I've never done it.

Pilates is terrific, however, I'd suggest that you take some classes from a certified pilates trainer

Thanks Bonnie. I'll look into finding an instructor once I get moving around a little bit more.

Pilates is terrific, however, I'd suggest that you take some classes from a certified pilates trainer until you know how to use your abs correctly with their methods. The tapes are good, but sometimes its really hard to realize if you are doing the exercises correctly unless a trainer corrrects you.

I love Pilates -- it's fun, easy, and it gets / keeps you in *great*

shape. (In the " strong and balanced " sense; I've never used it for

weight loss, but I bet it works there too.) My back is fine overall,

but it gets sore from computering, Pilates really helps! (Warning: it

does take a long time to learn, but I find the learning itself fun,

personally.) Luck,

S.

Seconded -- I learned it from a book, " The Pilates Body " by Brooke Siler

, and was able to learn it correctly, but she does a lot of

visualizations and descriptions to help make sure you're doing the

movements correctly and using the right muscles. It's not nearly as

simple as it looks--I wouldn't suggest a video, myself. But if you're a

book-learner, that's a good book. ;) -S
