Hi,

A close friend of mine (honest, it really isn't me :-) has recently

recognized/admitted that she has an alcohol problem. It is not as out

of control as the people you see in movies, but it is to the point of

a physical addiction, where, if she doesn't drink in the evening, she

suffers tremors.

She said that the hospital detox programs use drugs to get you over

this phase. She'd like to try to avoid drugs but doesn't think she

can get through the tremors/vomiting of withdrawal unassisted.

She is a real believer in herbal remedies (she is even taking panther

piss!) and is willing to give anything I can come up with a serious

try.

If you have any ideas, please write. She's a great person and is

ready to take the steps to overcome this ASAP.

Well I have no experience with this at all but I have read that an

old folk remedy for overcoming alcohol addiction is to use the

herb " angelica " . This statement is part of the European folk lore of

the plant, I believe. I read it in a book by Diane Dincin Buchman and

also when i was researching angelica.

Also, it sounds like some liver support is in order. Milk thistle and

dandelion are two herbs that come to mind.

When I quit drinking, I used chamomile and valerian tea in the evenings, to help with the tremors. I also doubled up my Total Tonic as well as drinking echenacia tea alternating weekly with astralagus (spelling?) to keep my immune system boosted. There is also some great herbs for the healing of the liver that I take in a tea and/or tincture, still, every day, though it tastes quite hideous. They are: gentian root, burdock root, dandelion root, oregon grape root, licorice, ginger and orange peel.

Is going without that bad for her? I have heard

talk of lithium, I remember. But the ones here are

mostly assortments of sorry people sitting around

wanting to smoke and talking about how bad they feel.

And how bad they want to get off it.

I did know some who used herbs to help, but that

was awhile ago and honestly don't have a clue what

they used. But they said it helped, so must be

something out there.

I think I would suggest a cleanse for this. Even the 3 day juice cleanse will help. Yeah, she'll suffer for about 3 days while she goes through this process, but it is much better than trying to do it over a long period of time. She should then consider the full cleanse or at least a liver cleanse.

The nerve sedative tea (see files) or a tincture of valerian might help her past the tremors.

I would definitely recommend a cleanse!! Even the three day juice cleanse is great for this! I do one once a month. A cleanse specifically for the liver would be even better.
