Guest guest
Hi everyone! I understand there are certain EO's that shouldnt be used on dogs & cats. I want to make some pet products as a gift for my friends puppy. Are there herbs that can not be used on pets as well? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Essential oils used as aromatherapy are very dangerous to cats. This is also true of putting the oil right on their skin. I didn't know about this until last year. I have 4 cats and was considering getting an aromatherapy diffuser and changed my mind. It would be a different dosage is all. I am always doing research into animals and particular herbs just to make sure of the safety. I agree...just about all herbs that we would take are safe for them, just using a fraction of the amount depending on their weight. As I was searching the net tonight, I found that tea tree oil can be lethal for cats which is new to me. I have a cat with gum problems and was going to swab some tea tree oil on them, just as I do for my own gum problems, but now I find that could be diastrous. Guest guest
There's a book out called Herbs For Pets and I really should invest in it. I've seen it (but haven't bought it yet), and it seems pretty thorough. It would be a nice reference as I'm a tincture queen and always prefer to use my herbs on my critters when they are under the weather. It would be a convenient source to make sure what works for me is going to work for them. Amazon.com: Books: Herbs for Pets

Guest guest
Yes, cats have small livers, so EO's can be dangerous for them. As far as herbs goes... I reccomend Dr Randy Kidd's cat book, he also has one about dogs... some great advice/herbal remedies in it. One thing you may not know is that cats aren't suppose to eat garlic and onions. It is bad for them. I believe Kidd talks about that in his book. Two herbs that I recall Kidd says are great for cats are cayenne pepper and green tea. I've also given my cat nettle infusion and oatstraw infusion mixed in with his dry food. In fact, oatstraw seems a good idea right about now. My cat has been meowing a lot. herbal remedies , " recyclingmom2003 " <recyclingmom2003> wrote: > Hi everyone! I understand there are certain EO's that shouldnt be > used on dogs & cats. Guest guest
Here is a fun link for you- but I'd still research the herbs to make sure. As I said, Kidd's books are great and I am sure there are others. There are recipes for remedies and treats here. http://www.mateerlabs.com/doggierecipes.htm herbal remedies , " recyclingmom2003 " <recyclingmom2003> wrote: > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Herbs for Pets is a terrific book, it's by Greg Tilford and his wife Mary. I use it an awful lot. It's now available in soft cover, when I got it it was only in a hard cover, Bonnie Rogers

Guest guest
Hi everyone! I was ill for several days and was unable to give my heartfelt thanks to those who responded to my post earlier. I never realized how dangerous EO's could be for pets, especially for cats. Bonnie: Thank you for mentioning the book " Herbs for Pets " , I will be looking for it very soon. Pee Tee: Thanks for the recipes, its enough to get me started and gives me a good idea on which herbs to use. Thanks again for the information and have a great weekend!
