The new puppy (Kuma) does not seems to be doing so well and i am concerened. First, i thought she had worms and i was giving her a concotion of part TT mixed with some Vit C, Aloe, GF Seed Extract, and Water. Her tummy does not seems to be bloated anymore and i still have not seen her expell any parasites like the other puppy did after he was wormed. Also, her cough seems to be more pronounced now and more frequent, since Friday evening. She seems to be wheezing at night and periodically wakes up coughing. I just let them out for their morning duty and when she rolled over to have her tummy pat, i noticed she has a thick discharge around her female area. I'm not thinkin very clear right now as this the least of what is going on at home this weekend. Anyway, i was wondering if i should focus on her immune system rather than parasites? Something like an infusion of astragulus/reishi? Mullien? Slippery Elm? I have all those things and could make her some tea. I'm about to start crying because i just have too much on my plate right now and i dont really have the cash to get her to the vet nor do i want to lose her. Guest guest Posted July 11, 2004 Report Share Posted July 11, 2004 Wish I could be of more help than this, but I definitely would call around for the most holistic vet possible and get this puppy to him/her. No matter what, verify the ingredient list of every shot or other medication given! As with human meds, most harm more than help. I recommend the Wysong brand for both dog (AND cat) food (for any kitty parents out there), for when this puppy gets better. I've had mine (2 cats) on the cat food version for the past year and a half of their two years and they are the healthies little critters I know, with big clear eyes and an abundance of energy. (I use their Vitality formula.) I imagine you might have similar luck with the pup. Good luck! The only experience I have with a discharge on a female dog was when I got one from the animal shelter. She was an older dog not a puppy, though. Someone had abandoned her and her puppies (none of them survived). She picked me out, as crazy as it sounds. I was looking at the prettiest samoyed puppy and I heard a commotion a the other end of the area where the shelter had kept the dogs. Someone had tried to pet the dog and she wouldn't have anything to do with it. I walked down and saw the oddest looking dog - not to cute either - part boston / part rat terrier. She looked scared and was shaking in the corner. Why I stuck my fingers in the bars, after she had just tried to bite the person before me, is beyond me. The worker there was standing with me and told me to be careful that they were probably going to have to put her to sleep because nobody could pet her. She was even snappish with the workers at the shelter. To my amazement, she slowly crawled up and sniffed my hand, and whimpered. I asked if I could hold her, after some debate they agreed to let me see her in the little room where they let the animals and future owners. They brought her in wearing thick rubber gloves and muzzled. When they put her in the middle of the floor, she sat there shaking. I walked over and gently took off the muzzle, somehow, I just knew that she would not bite me. I walked away from her to put the muzzle on the table. She followed me. She followed me everywhere, licking my hand. She was walking slow, which I thought was because she was scared. I carried her back to her cage, because I was not about to let them put that muzzle back on her. She leaned against me whimpering. I could tell that she was hurting somewhere. When I put her back into the cage I noticed the discharge. I mentioned it to the worker, and she said she'd tell the vet when he examined the animals the next morning. About that time, guess who walks in from lunch? The vet. I told him what I'd noticed. He went to examine her, and I went home to wait for the shelter to tell me if I could adopt her. I got a call the next morning from the vet telling me that because of me, the dog I wanted was alive, but very, very sick. She'd had a uterine infection. She had an emergency spaying the afternoon I was there, and that if they had waited til morning she would have died because her uterus was so full of pus and blood that it would have ruptured. He told me that he'd understand if I wanted to come back and pick out a healthier dog, but I told him no - I wanted that one because for some reason she trusted me, and I wasn't going to let her down. I named her Keski it was short for a french phrase that meant "what is it" Keski ended up being the best dog I've ever had. It broke my heart to have to give her away two years later after my son was born, but if you can believe it the woman I gave her to loved even more than I did. I still got to see her from time to time, and she was so happy that I knew I'd done right by her. I'd do a few things, make sure you are giving her plenty of raw meat, I'd make sure she was getting some good yogurt with some slippery elm mixed in. I'd also use some antibacterials like usnea.
