Guest guest
I could be wrong here but I've heard never rub a person with a fever with rubbing alcohol it makes something worse. Rag on forehead even soaking their clothes and putting them back on them wet also helps to bring it down. One of mine hit 106 dispite what the medical community says I've read and heard differently that anything over 103/104 is not necessarily a reason to panic just keep a close eye for convulsions seizures, mine have never experienced either. They have quit eating just have to keep pushing fluids. Am glad the little guy is feeling better. O.
Guest guest
I've had a couple 106 fevers and I remember how I react to them; I CAN NOT for the life of me stay awake. I think if Brock ever got that way I'd do what the nurses did to me; throw him in the tub and soak him in ice cold water. I'm glad he's better today. Now if only he weren't moody. : ) Candace - " orphan1948 " <orphan1948 <herbal remedies > Sunday, July 04, 2004 3:26 PM Herbal Remedies - Fevers > I could be wrong here but I've heard never rub a person with a fever > with rubbing alcohol it makes something worse. Guest guest
Actually, my mother is a long-time nurse, and she's always maintained that for a bad fever, lukewarm water is better than cold, especially for children. Unless you need to reduce the fever in *seconds* (as in, the body is shutting down from it), you want to avoid the shock of a sudden, drastic change in temperature. --S. Guest guest
The nurse told me if some one has a high fever they shouldn't be allowed to sleep. The fever could get hotter and hotter and give brain damage. They sure woke me up and got me in the tub in a big hurry. Even called the doc. So they thought it was a big deal. Not sure how true that is, though. Guest guest
Hey Candace, how is your son doing today? About sleeping with a fever, back when I was in school I was living in a college dormitory. I was feeling hot one night so I drank some ice water and went to sleep. Next thing I remember was the shock of freezing water hitting my back. After I went to sleep my temperature shot way up. I woke up delirious and started walking around the halls in my underwear. My roomie and a friend came back from a party and found me sitting in the dorm lobby trying to read a newspaper and complaining about the quality of the print. From what they told me later the only way they convinced me to get back into the dorm room was to convince me that they had a really good quality print newspaper back in the room. Once I got in the room they rushed me and threw me in the shower. After that they took shifts keeping me in cold wet towels and luckily I broke in the morning. Guest guest
I think high fevers are very much dangerous. Today Brock has diarhea but is bouncing off the walls. I just put him down for his afternoon nap and he's in there screaming he's so furious I'm trying to make him sleep. So I guess that's a good sign.
