Can you make an infused oil with just about any herb that is beneficial topically or is there a different process with different herbs? Do infused oils go bad? Do infused oils or tinctures need to be refrigerated? St Johnswort as sunblock. Is that the herb that has some interaction with birth control. If so is it safe to use as a sunblock without the same affect? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
How long to tinctures last, both of the vinegar and alcohol variety? 60-70 years depending on how they are bottled and how or where they are kept. If kept in a perfectly controlled environment, including their manner of bottling, indefinitely. Can you make an infused oil with just about any herb that is beneficial topically or is there a different process with different herbs? Yes. No difference in about 90% of herbs used this way. It really depends on what your trying to do but I haven't read, heard, or seen anything that says otherswise. Do infused oils go bad? Depends what oils are used. Jojoba oil is one great oil for topical use. Actuall the very best as it doesn't go rancid and you can ingest it without any ill or good effects, almost a null oil but it also lets your skins pores stay open and doesn't clogg them. It's like a cross between olive oil and bees wax. Olive oil is a food though and has so many good properties that in a home and for normal everyday use it is the best. You can ingest it with (as far as I know and have experienced) no ill effects but actually beneficial ones. So it's better than Jojoba for everyday use. But it goes rancid withint about 2-3 months depending on how it's stored. And yes infused oil, if not Jojoba, will go bad. Do infused oils or tinctures need to be refrigerated? Depends on oil. No for the tinctures. St Johnswort as sunblock. Is that the herb that has some interaction with birth control. If so is it safe to use as a sunblock without the same affect? I do not feel qualified to answer this question. In the future this is something I will look into though. I hope that helps hon.
