Guest guest Posted June 20, 2004 Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 My husband suddenly got a nasty hemorrhoid today. It is about the size of an olive, isn't bleeding and is extremely painful. All I have read about so far says that it will require surgery. Not a great way for the guy to spend Father's Day. The only thing I found in the files is the first aid cream, but I don't have time to make it let alone the ability to obtain all the ingredients, since the HFS is closed until Monday. Does anyone have a remedy to recommend? Currently I am having him do hot/cold therapy along with some juniper infused olive oil. This is not taking down the swelling at all so far. Guest guest Posted June 20, 2004 Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Hi Angie: My mother worked for a doctor's office in the 1930s. Her mother was a nurse. I had hemorrhoids after having my first baby. I couldn't even sit down. I was miserable. My mother said "just put some oil on it and push it back in." I did. It worked. And I never had any pain after that though a slight bit of discomfort for a day or two (but he hasn't had a baby either). It didn't feel so good pushing it back in, and I would recommend that he lie on the bed, spread eagle, and that you do it for him. Be very gentle, and it isn't horribly painful, but it doesn't feel great either. (If you get too rough, you can give him an abrasion with your fingernails, and that would be not good.) But once it goes back in, it tends to stay, and it doesn't hurt once it goes back. I have had another child and another hemorrhoid since, and I learned that if you push it in with a rolling motion as if you are trying to roll it back in (no direct pressure on the greatest part of the bulge) from the top (the part that is closest to the center of his rectum), it goes in easier and hurts less. It really won't be that painful, but it doesn't feel good until it gets back inside. It worked for me! And I was in agony. Sometimes the old fashioned methods work better than anything we think we know how to do now. And I had absolutely no problems at all from it. It's also helpful to " lube " the area to keep it from drying out - Standard Process makes a good product for it (I can't remember what it's called, but any chiro who carries Standard Process products will know about it - it comes in a tube). It's sort of like Prep-H but without the garbage.
