I had to jump in here cuz I LOVE the sun.

I read a book some years ago that said it was poor nutrition and especially BAD OILS in our diets ( which go to the skin and get burned in by the sun ) that cause cancer, and not the sun itself, alone.

My grandfather was in WWI in Borneo, and came down with Gang Green somehow on his face. They were out on a U-boat all day every day and he says the Sun Burned the Gang Green off his face. His face was smooth and his skin healthy with no sign he'd ever had gang green. He never had any form of skin troubles or skin cancer.

I know a person ahs to be careful not to burn, but I've read articles suggesting that sunscreen has more cancer causing agents than the sun does. I think some articles to that effect were posted on this group a little over a year ago. As for me, personally, I only use sun screan if I'm going to be in the sun so long I fear I may burn, or if I've already burned to protect my skin from further damage.

My mom is a sun worshipper and sun bathes regularly and is always brown and she has no skin cancer only healthy skin -- but she also eats no bad oils, and in general ,a very healthy diet.

I think if a person eats french fries and doughnuts, the combination of bad oils in the skin combined with the burning in effect of the ultraviolet rays, may be a danger.

Peace,

Cathie

Some of us do! If I'm going to be outside for longer than 2 hours I need one or I'll get really sick and REALLY burned.

I've had a burn so bad I touched my ear and the skin came right off.

You bring up a great point. Does one use a sunblock to prevent sunburn, or to minimize skin cancer? If the latter, then other methods would seem to suffice. If the former, then why use chemicals on our bodies when simply using clothing and hats, etc, would work better without the harmful effects? Convenience? I wonder..................

I prefer to use sunblock versus long sleeves or pants during the

summer months so that i dont overheat. I have a tendancy to get rashy

if I sweat and my skin stays wet so, i wear looser cooler clothing in

the summer to avoid the the whole issue.

My skin is olive so i dont burn very fast, but i still like to

minimize the possibility. Anyway, i think the issue here is not to

use chemical based sun-protection, but an herbal based one.

Heck you're worried about a little sunblock??? I'd be more worried

about what's in the water!

Summer months the water quality is usually a bit better than winter

and spring, but that's still not saying much!

Hope you'll be wearing a body suit!

Yeah, you're right. The water quality at the beach has been getting worse and worse. It's very sad. Our family would meet at Huntington Beach every year when I was growing up, and we've continued the tradition and now all our kids are growing up with the tradition. I remember spending hours in the water, though, but I have to warn my daughter not to go in sometimes. Sigh....

I got this off another list I'm on~ looks good!

Jan

1 oz. sesame oil1 oz. coconut oil1 oz. olive oil10 drops Helichrysum5 drops Lavender3 drops ChamomileMix and apply.Sesame oil can block or reduce about 30% of the burning rays; coconut and olive oils about 20%; and aloe vera also inhibits 20%. Helichrysum oil has been researched for its ability to effectively screen out some of the sun's rays.

Having grown up my entire life in So Cal, and going to the beach all

the time, i became more and more of an issue for me.

When we were preparing to leave San Diego, people couldnt believe i

would leave the beach or Cali. I laughed because half the year the

water quality is so poor they have signs posted warning you not to go

in; that plus the fact that you cant get close to the beach to save

your life with all the bodies crowding the sand! Pretty sad for a

Native Californian!

Have a good time with you family anyway :)

Yes, I grew up in So Cal also. Live in the Bay Area now (hard to call it Northern Calif when it doesn't look like that on a map!). When our whole family meets at the beach, some of us get there EARLY and stake out our territory. We brave the water and crowds in order to experience some of our "childhood memories" again! LOL! We're going in August. I hadn't done the cleanse at all the last time we went. Now that my husband and I have each done it twice, I'm wondering how many family converts we'll be able to get!! hee hee!

Actually you have described me. Due to religious convictions I

typically cover from head to toe, almost literally. You can see my

face and forearms and I usually wear a hat outside to protect my fave

from the sun. It really isn't that bad, and it has made protecting

my skin from the sun much easier (except when I forget my hat!)

I'm such a baby when it comes to heat I go outside with my hair down and

have to run in the house to throw it up because I can't stand the heat on

the back of my neck!

I get dizzy easily. WOW covered from head to toe. Not sure I'd live. LOL
