I can't say how to lose weight (would love to hear what others have to say on this though!), but I took Shi Lin Tong for kidney stones, and the stone I had (3/8") passed without pain. However, I am very sensitive to meds/herbs/whatever, and I got bad headaches from it. It also made me sick to my stomach. I was supposed to take five to eight tablets a day, but I ended up taking 2-3. When I could not stand the headaches (about 2-3 days of a constant headache) I would quit. Usually I quit until I felt the stone acting up again, and then I would start again for a few days. I did this for about 6-9 months, and the stone was gone. I had a dr X-ray me to check for the stone about a year later, and there was not one.

I will tell you how I know that it works, and I will give you details here. If you don't want to read the graphic details, don't keep reading. I never had another kidney stone attack after I started taking it somewhat regularly. However, when I quit once for about 3 months shortly after I had the surgery that the dr missed getting the stone (hate drs), I had an attack again. I had not taken the herb for quite a long time. It felt like the flu suddenly coming on, and I was at work. I went and immediately took several tablets (3-5 I think), and then I felt really bad from the stone attack. I felt sick, then I took the tablets (which I carried with me at all times), and I just got sicker and sicker and sicker over about an hour. So I went and lay down in the lounge at work. Then I began to throw up about 90 minutes after I had taken the herbs, and I threw up a little of the herbs (so it looked green). Then I threw up over and over and over so much I was throwing up blood from the stone attack.

So my friend took me to the hospital. I went in, insisting that the herbs would take effect shortly, and she kept insisting that I be in the hospital. It is hard to resist when you are weak from pain. So the dr gave me some pain meds, and I was resting quietly, still really sick, unable to move or do anything from the pain but not throwing up, and finally the attack passed about 5-6 hours after I took the herbs. The drs cannot do a thing for a stone attack except basically wait it out. They can do surgery, or they can let you suffer through it. Kind of like having a baby without the end result being worth it.

I told the dr I was okay, and he looked at me with a look of disdain, and he said "Well, you can't leave the hospital. As soon as the darvon wears off, you will feel terrible again and be in pain." I was really irritated at his confidence that the darvon was what stopped the pain as I had no pain at all by that time, and I was having terrible pain with the darvon while the stone was attacking. Believe me, the darvon didn't cut the pain except that I wasn't throwing up but still felt like it. That was all. And for me, Darvon is about like taking aspirin. It does something, but it is so little it is hardly worth bothering. But the pain was gone. He said as I left "see you in the morning." I just ignored his ignorance.

I went to my friend's house as she was sure I would be back to the hospital. The dr knew what he was saying in her view. And I felt fine for two hours then drove the 1.2 hour trip back home. I was fine.

This herb works really well, and it will pass the stones over time. I probably would have and should have taken it for about 6-8 weeks or even 12 from what I understand. But then again, most people have stones the size of a grain of sand. Mine was 3/8" more like the size of a bullet. Let me tell you, if you have never had a kidney stone, it is very similar in pain to the transitional phase of having a baby. It hurts so bad that you are pretty much incoherent.

But I got headaches with the herb so bad that I would feel sick over my whole body from the headaches after a few days. I have adverse reactions to anything that alters my body in any way, so maybe he won't have those reactions. The chinese herbalist told me he had not heard of people having headaches from it. Though he knew of folks getting sick to their stomachs. I think he gave me some flower something to get rid of the stomach sickness. We tried things to get rid of the headaches, but they persisted. Nothing worked. Probably allergic. But I was more allergic to the stone!

I still have some at my house, and I would take it in a minute if I felt a stone coming on. The strange thing is that, once this stone passed, I have not had any since. I heard that once a person gets stones, they always have them. My grandfather died of kidney stones, and my cousin also had stone surgery. But somehow, I think this herb actually cured my cold or hot condition (whichever it is) and changed it so that I would be able to not get stones again. I also totally quit drinking pop (especially colas), and I have some reason to believe that colas cause stones in people who are prone to get them. I might have a cola once in six months now, and I used to drink them regularly. I also think they really messed up my system for weight gain. I think most of the weight I gained was from them damaging my system.

Hi Kay! Welcome to the group.

I can't tell you much in the way of your premenstrual problems, I in fact, have the opposite problem. But I wanted to ask you, what was it you used/did for the kidney stones? My FIL has them badly, and I wanted to offer something to help him. He is on bloodpressure meds and nexium for his heartburn (totally dependent on his doctor at this point). I'd love to give him some ideas to help him get off this stuff and loose his extra weight.

Thanks,
