Guest guest
SAD=Seasonal Affective Disorder. Definitely can make a person sad. I was in the Seattle area for years, and I would get very depressed every winter. Finally was able to move. Haven't had that problem since. I live in the Seattle area, just southwest of there, and I LOVE winters here, and hate the summers. Too hot for me! <grin> This summer hasn't been bad though, with all the " dreary " rainy days we have had. Just a bit hard on the garden though, which I am sure would prefer more sun. Kim S. Guest guest
it is not about the winter, sort of. it is about the amount of sunlight one gets, atleast that is what i understand this sad means. i tend to get this too, never seems to happen around other seasons, end of spring and winter is when depression appears. these depressions seems to hang around scandanavian levels of the globe, so that probably means seattle is on the same line on the globe (forgot how they call these lines)and above even more when there is no sun for months. alcoholism thrives at these times and suicides multipy like mice.........just a thought, rik herbal remedies , " Doc Shillington " <DocShillington@V...> wrote: > And the place you moved to doesn't have winter???? > Doc > > Ian " Doc " Shillington N.D. > 727-738-0554 > DocShillington@V... > - > Kay Fielding > herbal remedies > Sunday, June 13, 2004 2:07 PM > Herbal Remedies - SAD > > > SAD=Seasonal Affective Disorder. Guest guest
There is a difference between 31 degrees and sunny and 110 cloudy days in a row with 90 of them producing rain. The former is eastern Washington. The latter is wastern Washington. Guest guest
I understand. I just take umbrage when the Psychs make a mental disease out of a physical manifestation. Guest guest
I get your point, but my point as I stated to Rik, is that this is a physical manifestation not a mental disease. So why put a mental label on it??? You could stick a person on the moon (with no atmosphere) and they'd sure as hell experience some mental anguish, but the "cause" is purely phyiscal. Get the idea??? Now the Psychs would come along and "label" this "Lunapression" or some other nonsense like "SAD" and we now have a new mental disease which Eli Lily can take advantage of and start pushing a new round of psychotropic drug. It would drive me nuts to live in the middle of the Sahara Desert, but the solution would be to move the hell out as you did, rather than start taking Prozac or Zoloff or . . . due to "having a mental disorder".
