Guest guest
Everyone I know, even my husband and parents, look at me like I am from Mars or Venus. They think I am going radical getting into the "health nut" mode, and mom actually gets mad at me if I don't take the kids to the doctor for the littlest thing, let alone the bigger things. But, it won't stop me, I know there is a reason why my instincts tell me to go the way I am, and I am finding more and more information with studies to back them up to help me fight the war at home. I think the real kicker with be when they see the hubby and I loose so much weight when we go on the cleanse. That should be a riot. I do have a few food allergies that I am very aware of. Namely, nuts. I can eat peanuts and pistachios (thank God!), but all other nuts make my tongue and lips swell, and the more I have the worse it is. One time, when I was working at a deli, we were pulling frozen cookie dough balls from the freezer to bake, and my teacher/co-worker ate one. So, I followed suit, thinking nothing of it. I ate it fast, since I needed my hands free, and boom, the tell tale itching started up in my mouth. I asked about nuts, they didn't think it had any. But 5 minutes later, I knew I was in trouble. They looked at the labels, it had macadamia nuts in it, one of the worst! My tongue swelled up so much it cracked, and I ended up in the hospital, even after two rounds of an epi-pen. I had never had such a big reaction, and it scared me pretty bad. I am paranoid about possibly nuts now in anything I eat. Another thing that got me reading labels. I have drunk slippery elm tea, great for sore throats and cough, but never used it for indigestion. I will see if I can find a good source of it and make up some tea next time I feel the stomach turning on the acid pumps into overdrive. You quoted a by the bottle price, so are you talking EO? I have a fairly good health food store at my disposal, but I question the knowledge of some of the staff sometimes. For example, I went in looking for Lavender EO, and happened to find a nice 4 oz bottle of EPO for a very reasonable price. But, it wasn't refridgerated, which it really should be. Kind of made me think, after I bought it of course. But it smells good, I don't think any harm came to it yet. A friend of mine is beginning to jump on the band wagon of health with me, although I don't know if it will just be a fad for her. But any rate, she found a totally organic grocery in Tacoma. I am gonna go on a trip over there with her after we move (1 week and counting!!) and check it out. She says they have everything from meat to herbs, so I am excited. But of course, she doesn't really know what she is looking for in veggies and herbs, so I won't know til I see if it is really quality or not. Guest guest
Hello Kimberly I am generally a lurker but your post caught my attention. Peanuts are not a nut, they are legumes like soy, beans also called lentil and dahl. You might be interested also to note that EPO provides arachidonic acid which is essential and has very few food sources. It was only identified as essential about ten years ago after SIDS death research found brains autopsied devoid of arachidonic acid. A caution for people with serious allergic reaction as arachidonic acid is used in anaphylactic responses. The body can store arachidonic acid for up to three months. When I recommend EPO I usually recommend much less than is suggested on the product recommendation.
