Kim,

I have done just about MY OWN research on herbs, etc...the doctor's have looked at me like I am from mars...OR FROM VENUS! my eating habits were pretty bad also..i ate alot of fried foods, red..red meats and sugary/dairy foods. right now, I am fasting on only pineapple, papaya, flax seeds, fish, spinach and brown rice until monday. I can start drinking my cabbage juice tonight. that will replace the good bacteria and b vitamins back into my body. I am drinking pau d arco tea and taking black walnut hulls and garlic. Also parsley is helping me too. I kinda have to stay away from msg, wheat and sugar/dairy and yeast for now. wheat just makes my thyroid hurt even more and it starts to swell up. I have visitors....do me a favor kim....have you tried the herb...slippery elm??? that helped my indigestion and heartburn. if it helps me then let me KNOW...or let the group know..It is fairly cheap like eight dollars a

bottle or so....why don't you get some at the store today..are you having food allergies????? actually fresh or organic is better but I really don't have access to any organic stuff except for organc spinach, bananas or carrots at the store plus it is REALLY expensive...especially organic meats.the doctor's ma/nurse called me yesterday and i told her how I was doing. she asked me what I thought was wrong w/ me and i told her. she said that she would tell the doctor on monday but i am not holding my breath. You have to do stuff on your own. I have just about given up on doctors...the pcp that I go to now is alright and she believes in alot more homeopathy/herbs than other doctors do. my first doctor wanted me to take my medicine and sit in a padded cell. after I went off my meds then my bp was perfect....

gotta go for now....let me know how you do if you decide to take slippery elm. that is why really turned me around PLUS the doctor's ignoring you and not really LISTENING to you. they only treat the SYMPTOMS and not the CAUSE of the problem.

I do get indigestion, heartburn, pretty badly sometimes. But since I have become more aware of how I should be nailing the causes rather than just the symptoms, I have had a lot more luck in controlling it. A big one for me was the artificial sweeteners, namely aspartame, which I was addicted to. I was drinking like 1/2 gallon of Crystal Light each day. I was getting massive headaches that wouldn't go away for anything. And the heartburn was so bad, I couldn't eat hardly at all. Now, I pay for it when I binge on caramel popcorn or potato chips, which doesn't happen often, because I am remembering the effects more and more each time I do, but I am staying way away from anything with aspartame or Splenda in it. Plain or with raw honey, please.

MSG was the first thing I realized I needed to get away from. I would get horrible headaches, indigestion, and fatigue problems after eating just a few Doritos, or Top Ramen (can't you tell I was a junk food addict?) It finally dawned on me that I was getting those symptoms from stuff I was eating, and started watching labels for MSG, since I had heard it could have this effect on a person.

Diary on the other hand, I just can't see going without. I LOVE goats milk and products, and raise my own milk goats. I get a little bit of hiccups from the milk, but not bad, and only for a short while. I can see being moderate with these things, but I couldn't give them up very easily. Store bought milk grosses me out and the kids won't touch it. I can give them a glass of store bought milk, and they take a sip and nearly gag. I really get the scolding for it, too! Chesses are next on the make it at home or don't eat it list. I just don't trust any commercial stuff anymore. I love my homemade yogurt, and find making sure I take in a cup or so a day seems to really help me feel better. I miss a day, and I feel like I am gonna go down hill.

I am a relatively new coffee drinker, but I was really hooked on it for a while. I finally realized though how dried out I ended up feeling after drinking it, and started preferring to not drink it, but man, it is hard to keep myself from mindlessly heading for the Starbucks or nearest espresso stand for that rich, creamy mocha. (Wiping off my keyboard here....drool....)

I have terribly dry skin, cracked feet. I have recently found Evening Primrose Oil to help a lot, rubbed in twice a day, and making sure I drink LOTS of water and tea (decaf of course), and NO coffee. That and that Crystal Light stuff was making me even more thirsty and dried out when I was drinking it. Now, water and tea have become my new addiction. Much more satisfying and I can really feel the difference in my skin. I also use Olive Oil after my showers instead of lotions, since I am leery of the junk I find in most stuff, and I can't afford to use a lot of the hfs lotions, with how much I use daily. With the EPO, and my super-fatted homemade soaps, it seems to be working well.

Chocolate, I crave, but I end up feeling so badly after I eat it, I am shying away from it more often than not now. Indigestion, bloating, oily skin, sluggish, but jittery at the same time. Just really not much fun. Another one of those things were the more I get "zapped" by the "electric fence" the more I decide not to push my luck.

So, at any rate, you can see, the picture becomes clearer for me each passing day, as I make choices in how I eat and drink and then feel the effects on my body and mind. Best part, I comparatively rarely get headaches any more, and when I do, I just drink LOTS of water, and in about 15 minutes, it is gone! Sometimes I use a bit of Lavender EO to help me relax while I am waiting. Sure beats popping Tylenol or Advil all day!

Everyone I know, even my husband and parents, look at me like I am from Mars or Venus. They think I am going radical getting into the "health nut" mode, and mom actually gets mad at me if I don't take the kids to the doctor for the littlest thing, let alone the bigger things. But, it won't stop me, I know there is a reason why my instincts tell me to go the way I am, and I am finding more and more information with studies to back them up to help me fight the war at home. I think the real kicker with be when they see the hubby and I loose so much weight when we go on the cleanse. That should be a riot.

I do have a few food allergies that I am very aware of. Namely, nuts. I can eat peanuts and pistachios (thank God!), but all other nuts make my tongue and lips swell, and the more I have the worse it is. One time, when I was working at a deli, we were pulling frozen cookie dough balls from the freezer to bake, and my teacher/co-worker ate one. So, I followed suit, thinking nothing of it. I ate it fast, since I needed my hands free, and boom, the tell tale itching started up in my mouth. I asked about nuts, they didn't think it had any. But 5 minutes later, I knew I was in trouble. They looked at the labels, it had macadamia nuts in it, one of the worst! My tongue swelled up so much it cracked, and I ended up in the hospital, even after two rounds of an epi-pen. I had never had such a big reaction, and it scared me pretty bad. I am paranoid about possibly nuts now in anything I eat. Another thing that got me

reading labels.

I have drunk slippery elm tea, great for sore throats and cough, but never used it for indigestion. I will see if I can find a good source of it and make up some tea next time I feel the stomach turning on the acid pumps into overdrive. You quoted a by the bottle price, so are you talking EO? I have a fairly good health food store at my disposal, but I question the knowledge of some of the staff sometimes. For example, I went in looking for Lavender EO, and happened to find a nice 4 oz bottle of EPO for a very reasonable price. But, it wasn't refridgerated, which it really should be. Kind of made me think, after I bought it of course. But it smells good, I don't think any harm came to it yet.

A friend of mine is beginning to jump on the band wagon of health with me, although I don't know if it will just be a fad for her. But any rate, she found a totally organic grocery in Tacoma. I am gonna go on a trip over there with her after we move (1 week and counting!!) and check it out. She says they have everything from meat to herbs, so I am excited. But of course, she doesn't really know what she is looking for in veggies and herbs, so I won't know til I see if it is really quality or not.
