Sylvia, have you looked into clicker training? We trained our three dogs this

way and it worked wonders. It's training based on positive reinforcement (no

choke collars, so your hubby will like that). It definitely works and we found

with our dogs that we got results faster than traditional training.

 

By the way, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Stacey, 25, been married for

4 years and I adore my husband. We don't have any kids, but we do have 3 dogs

and 3 cats. I've been interested in herbal remedies for a while and use some

We thought about this idea, as they use this technique at Petsmart.

I missed the beginning of this thread, but a great book on dog psychology is one called "Beyond Obedience" by April Frost. Great examples of difficult troubles overcome through understanding the problem from the dog's point of view. I read a host of other dog training books that were more basic and less psychological, from the local library, and some of them had some really good information also, but this one book by April Frost is an original -- information Not Replicated in any other dog training book I've seen. A great deal of insight into the mind and heart of the dog.

This woman is a professional dog trainer and has many dogs of her own, and gives detailed examples on how she overcame some very difficult problems.
