Baking Soda and vinegar causes major fizzing.....do you do this with a regular steam vac? Like Bissell? How much of each?

I have a hoover at home carpet cleaner... In the soap container I fill it with vinegar full strength in the water tub I add 1 cup baking soda... It mixes when it hits the carpet and the "action" from the two help clean! I have done this for years and carpets come out very clean and smelling clean as well.

Oh bummer, I have a bissell where you dump the soap in with the water.

~sigh~ Maybe I'll have to sprinkle baking soda on the floor and go over it with vinegar. Same derned thing! And your floors don't smell like vinegar at all, huh!?!

No just clean smell in the house. I would mix the baking soda with the water and use a spray bottle to apply some vinegar (white vinegar) to the carpet kinda like a pre-treat since you don't have 2 tubs.

What a good idea!! Will this help with mildew problems? The hot

water heater burst a few months back and we've been having problems

in the baby's room. Some nights it smells really bad, so she sleeps

with us most of the time.

You should be careful and maybe call the insurance company to come inspect... If you have a mold/mildew problem from a water leak you all could get quite sick from it. Get it checked out soon.

If you have mildew in your carpets, i suggest you rip the carpet up

in the affected area NOW! mildew spreads!

Then treat all the floors of the affected area with the same solution

they recommeded plus add tea tree to it. Also treat the base boards.

Mildew is no joke left unchecked.

We are in a rental right now, but I need to talk to the landlord

about this. I've been worried about it for a while.

Thanks,

Lisa C.

If you are in a rental, then i would. Also check what your renters

laws are for your state. In California, as soon as i reported

mold/mildew in my unit, they were over in 2 days. If they dont fix

it, they know that they could be potentially liable for any illness

that is a direct result. When you do report it to your landlord,

follow up in WRITING confirming that you have reported it and what he

resolved to do, send it certified DO NOT HAND DELIVER it.

Even having the mildew in one room is a huge issue, not only because

it will spread, but as it spreads, it is sending off spores.

Make those calls today especially if you have a little one in your

house. I didnt realize we had the patch under the window until it

was on the window and i saw it. I kept smelling something and was

having tons of problems with allergies and breathing and even ended

up in emergency room. Later when we figured everything out, we could

have saved a couple of trips to the medicos!
