My disability was denied so I went to the doctor that has been caring for me for

years- to see if he would complete the paper work for my appeal.

I am having terrible problems with my memory and concentration since my last

back surgery in 2006.

I may have thyroid issues as my tsh a few months ago was 3.79 (from the research

I have done it should not be over 3) He took more blood to test again.

The doc thinks my memory problems are depression related and I know I am having

problems with moving on from my daughters death. but I get out of bed everyday

and do as much as my bad back will allow. Of course the doc wants me to take

something for depression. Cymbalta is what he gave me samples of. When I told

him I was opposed to taking antidepressants he got upset with me and said why

did I come to see him if I was not going to take his advice! I have been on anti

depressants before and I had an awful time weaning off of them. I don't want to

go back there. I agreed that I would try it for two weeks and if I didn't like

the way it made me feel I would quit taking it. I am afraid to take any of it!

Would it be right to just not take it and say I did? Then tell the doc I didn't

like it and won't take it? I can't change doctors as I don't have insurance and

no one will see me without insurance. This doc will let me pay a little each

month til I pay off what I owe him. He has been a decent dr. mostly.

I think I need to try something for my thyroid to see if that is the problem.

(low thyroid runs in my family) When he asked me my symptoms, I had all the

symptoms of low thyroid. From what I have read low thyroid can cause the memory

and concentration problems too.

As long as I can function, why should I take antidepressants? My husband wants

me to take them. He is bipolar and is on antidepressant and thinks it is the be

all, cure all.

I would rather treat any depression naturally, but is there any way to treat low

thyroid naturally?

I am one who does not like to take drugs. I take a pain pill for my back and

leg pain because I could not function or sleep without it. I also had to go on

a BP med recently. I have tried to get off the pain pills but I just can't

handle the pain without them. The doc also gave me a muscle relaxer to try for

my leg cramps. I am not going to take that either. I am uneasy about taking

drugs and I can not afford to buy it without insurance anyway.

Any advice or moral support?

Sweetie,

I do not know your name but I have read your email and I have felt the pain

you feel.

I too have lost a child, I lost my son will be 5 years ago this coming Sunday

and Pat or group owner

lost a son as well close to this time so we both understand your loss. I also

lost my mom will be 4 years

ago this coming Sunday, So March 15th is a double whammy day for me.

I also am handicapped , have scoliosis of the spine with an 80 degree curve.

I too have alot of back pain but I keep

on pushing on. I work outside the home holding down 2 jobs even though there are

times it is all I can

do to get out of bed. I am telling you that it takes will power and

determination to keep going. You can

choose to live in self pity or you can choose to keep on going no matter what

life hands you.

I have taken the cymbalta and I can tell you that I did not get hooked on it.

I still take it on occasion

However it is months in between times of taking it. I have been off it for

almost a year now.

I suggest that you try it as the DR has ask,I think you will be suprised at the

difference. I too had no energy

It still isn't the best but I am better and I know my son does not want me to

give up just because he isnt

here with me in the physical and I can bet your daughter feels the same way.

well  depression  varies  with  each  person-firstly    some  people  really

need  the  meds  and it's  a matter  of  shopping  around  till you find  the

one  you  are compfy with.    i  tried  a couple  and  just  did  not  want

them  but  i  did  try  natural  remedies----  St  john's wort zinc, magnesium,

fish oil-it all helped-  plus  valerian or  cammomile tea  to  relax  and  or

sleep  plus  light  yoga  and  water----lemon  water  preferably---diet  is

the  most  important  of  all---plenty  of  fresh  live  foods  (  LIVE  IN

FRESH  AS)    tHIS  WIL  HELP  WITH  THE  TYROID  AS  WELL-ESP  DIET------

--- when  i  have  more  time  i will look  up  some  more   data  , however

i know  your  back  is  a  problem  but  you  need  to  do  some  light

exercise  or  you  run  the  risk of  developing  diabetes,  heart  disease,

varagoise   veins  and  pelvic  problems---depression  also  -you  run  the

risk  of  other  problems-  depression  makes  one  lethargic  as  a rule  and

so  stimulating  the  circulation  is  a must          :
