Guest guest
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for boosting immune system. Since my son started preschool, I've been sick five times in five months. We have a very clean diet, and very clean lifestyle. We only treat illness naturally. I've tried so many different things, but nothing seems to be working. Thanks for your help! Mira Jacquin
Guest guest
Yes indeed, My diet includes 4 grams (4000 mg) of vitamin C, 2 in AM w/ breakfast, and 2 w/ dinner. I then take a Solgar VM-75 multi at noon with lunch. At 82, that's kept me going very well for over 30 years. At least that's the base of my diet. -- Phil Bate PhD http://drbate.com Free Alternate Health Advice Neuroliminal Training (NT) helps solve mental problems without drugs at low cost. Guest guest
Hi- May I ask what vitamin c you use (brand). I wonder is one form of vitamin c better than another? Thanks, Nicole On Mar 9, 2009, at 1:01 PM, Dr Bate wrote: > Yes indeed, My diet includes 4 grams (4000 mg) of vitamin C, 2 in AM w/ > breakfast, and 2 w/ dinner. Guest guest
Hi Nicole, " There's a lot of sales hype, but I've neer found one brand better or more effective than another. The cheapest I've found is the Kirkwood brand at Cosco, and I buy the 1000 ng (1 gram) in 500 bottles. My wife is allergic to corn, and cannot take plain ascorbic acid, so she is limited to the more expensive Calcium ascorbic, She's found no difference between any brands at the health food store. Ive looked at the " hype " about ester C, and the data is not conclusive to me or other " experts " . For some nearly 30 years, I've taken at least 2 grams a day, and for the 8-10, it's been a minimum of 4, and up to six a day in the flu season, or if I've been out and exposed to people with colds etc. I get cuts and abrasions, particularly in sailing, or in working with tools, and I never use antibiotics on them, and they heal well. One more tip on improving your immune system is to be sure that your " gut " is healthy. Read my web page at http://drbate.com/Ref/gut.html. This is a critical part of the immune system that is overlooked by many. -- Phil Bate PhD http://drbate.com Free Alternate Health Advice Neuroliminal Training (NT) helps solve mental problems without drugs at low cost. Guest guest
Hi Mira, I haven't been sick in close to a decade - not even a tiny cold. I attribute it to: eating organic foods eating pesticide and hormone free meat (grass-fed beef is wonderful) using healthy oils like coconut (and avoiding trans fats and refined polyunsaturated oils) exercising on a rebounder (best exercise on the planet!) using natural personal products and cleaning products limiting my stressors (or learning how to better deal with them) doing a full body detox regularly (drnatura.com has wonderful products) Making sure your gut flora is healthy and that your body pH is slightly alkaline are too important steps to getting your immune system to be in tip top shape. Check out my site for lots more in depth info on boosting immune system health. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Guest guest
Hi Frank, My son is two months shy of three years old. I'm sort of assuming that it's him bringing home the bugs as it's the only thing that seems to be different in our lives. ~Mira Jacquin
Guest guest
I would suggest having your Vitamin D level checked. You can order a home test from the http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/. Also, you can find many studies regarding Vitamin D at that web site. Since I have been taking Vitamin D (4,000iu/day) I have not had a cold or flu for at least four year. Guest guest
Hi Melissa, Thank you for the link to your website! It is officially bookmarked. Our diet is 100% organic, we make most of our cleaning and personal products and try to choose very wisely when buying products we don't make. We are 100% vegan as well. I'm thinking that I do need to pay more attention to the pH of my body. I take about a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in the morning with a glass of water on an empty stomach. Do you have any other suggestions? As for maintaining the flora in the gut, I'm probably not so attentive. My supplements have probiotics and I eat some raw organic sauerkraut every day. What else can I do besides yogurt? As for exercise, I practice yoga in addition to being a yoga teacher. What can the Rebounder do that an intense yoga practice can not do? Thanks so much for your help! Mira Jacquin www.philippejacquin.com
Guest guest
I just joined your group tonight. Mira, normally the children bring home the bugs. When my kids were going to school many years ago, I stayed sick most of the time. They'd bring the bugs home and I'd be in the Dr's office almost as often as they were. J. Guest guest
What can the Rebounder do that an intense yoga practice can not do? Hi Mira, What the rebounder can do that yoga can not is to directly effect your lymphatic system. Since the lymphatics are an important part of trapping the toxins in the body, the motion of bouncing helps the lymph nodes to release them more quickly into the blood stream, where it will then be removed through its normal means. Additionally, the increased G-force forces every cell of your body to meet the demands of that increase. This means that the cells must increase in energy. As the cells increase in energy, so does your magnetic field. The more energy you have, the better you feel and the stronger your immune system defense is. The combination of yoga and the increase in energy is an incredible combination that I highly recommend to my students. Hope this helps, Judy http://forceofspirit.com
Guest guest
Hi Mira, As far as other supplements, the following come to mind because it can be a bit more challenging for vegans and vegetarians to get enough. Zinc - once plentiful in our soils, but now quite rare because of commercial farming practices. Most people are deficient - and it's easy to tell. You can generally find liquid zinc supplements in health food stores. Swish a little around in your mouth and see how long it takes you to taste it. If you can't taste anything, or it takes a little while, you're deficient. You can take up to 150 mg per day until you can taste it, then drop back to a maintenance dose of 15-25 mg per day. High doses of zinc will compete with other minerals for absorption, so they shouldn't be taken any longer then necessary. The amino acids arginine, lysine, and glutamine are all critical for proper immune function. Lysine is essential, meaning our bodies cannot make it and it must come from our diets. Arginine and glutamine are conditionally essential, meaning that under certain conditions (like stress, infection, injury, etc) our bodies require more than we can manufacture. Sometimes MUCH more. Omega 3 fatty acids - many times our diets are way too high in omega 6s and way too low in omega 3s, resulting in a weakened immune system, inflammation, chronic fatigue, mood disorders, skin disorders, and more. Many people only think you can get this nutrient from fish and fish oils, but flax and flaxseed oils are just as good. They just take longer to work because the fatty acid AHA in flax has to be converted into the fatty acids EPA and DHA that are already found in fish oils. Before going all out on supplements, you should really look into a full body detox program that includes a thorough colon cleanse. All the supplements in the world will not improve your immune system if your colon is lined with, well, literally, crap. The good programs will have probiotics to take with the cleanse. The idea being that the colon is being cleansed (and the bad bacteria are being removed) so the good bacteria will have a place to colonize and grow. I have tried many different cleansing programs, but the best elimination I had was with the products from drnatura.com. And lastly, about the rebounder. I agree that yoga is incredibly good for us, but it still lacks some major benefits of the rebounder. The rebounder is an excellent detoxification tool - each bounce detoxifies every cell in our body. It also flushes the lymphatics better than any other exercise - just a couple minutes lightly bouncing sends a surge of white cells through our bodies. It also strengthen ALL the cells in our body - unlike other forms of exercise. It allows us to literally exercise and strengthen our internal organs, bones, soft tissues, eye muscles - everything! Hope this helps. Good luck to you. Melissa http://www.how-to-boost-your-immune-system.com , " mirajacquin " <mirajacquin wrote: > > Hi Melissa, > Thank you for the link to your website!
