I wanted to tell you about a very unique fundraising concert event

that takes place on March 3 at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. THE

ROCK-IT SCIENCE FESTIVAL features some of the world's most famous

scientists playing music, plus some very special guest stars. First,

the scientists (each of whom also actively puruse music): NYU

Neuroscientist/author Joseph LeDoux and his band, the Amygdaloids;

neuroscientist Daneil Levitin, author of the best seller This Is Your

Brain On Music; Harvard's Padis Sabeti, one of the world's leading

geneticists, and her band Thousand Days; Columbia University's Dave

Sulzer (performing as Dave Soldier, with his band, The Spinozas; and

NYTimes science journalist and blogger Andrew Revkin. The guest's

performing at the event include Rufus Wainwright, Gary Lucas, Peter

Holsapple, Steve Wynn, Lenny Kaye, Dee Snider, the Kennedys, Stuart

Chatwood of the Tea Party, Pamela Lus, and many more! The event

starts at 6:30, and tickets (and the latest updated line-up) can be

found at www.highlineballroom.com/bio.php?id=849 .

The Rock-It Science Festival is sponsored by The Sensation and Emotion

Network (www.sensationandemotion.com), which is focused on funding

research and creating awareness of Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD),

a brain-based problem that affects approximately five percent of

school age children in the U.S. One subtype of SPD is Sensory Over

Responsivity (SOR). SOR kids respond to sensory information (i.e.

sound and touch) as though it were extremely aversive. They feel

continually bombarded by stimuli and the resultant physiologic

over-arousal and emotional disfunction negatively impact the child's

daily functioning. The Rock-It Science Festival will raise funds for

the E.M.B. Brout Sensory Processing and Emotion Regulation Program at

Duke University and the SPD Foundation.
