Guest guest
You guys are the best at giving advise! Now I have a question: I'm getting a new job working swing shift. I'll get off at 11:30 pm and get home by midnight. Since I'll need to get to sleep shortly after arriving home, I was wondering what might be a healthy meal/snack to eat just prior to going to bed. I know not to have any foods with sugar/caffeine, but are there any " good " snacks? Are protein foods better? Or complex carbs? I'll obviously want something that won't be too hard on the digestive system since I'll be laying down. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
One of my first " real " jobs was working swing shift. It actually wasn't as bad to adjust as I thought it would be. I wouldn't recommend any snacks prior to going to bed. When we sleep our bodies get busy detoxifying. If you eat before going to bed, your body will first have to digest - which takes away from that very important detox time. It would be best to eat a snack or meal at work if possible, allowing a couple of hours time to digest before going to bed. If you only have time to eat once you get home, make sure it is something that is easy to digest. Raw vegetable juices (homemade, not bottled) come to mind. Although stay away from carrot juice at night - it can give you quite an energy boost! HTH, Melissa , " beaverton1952 " <beaverton1952 wrote: > > You guys are the best at giving advise! Guest guest
Hi- Best practice is not to eat a least 3 hours before retiring. Sleep is better when digestion is complete. Q: Do we eat to create energy or do we waste most of our energy digesting our food? You won't need food to get through the night.
