Guest guest
Is it safe to purchase Natural Progesterone creams from the Health Food Store (ie: whole foods, sunflower market, vitamin cottage, etc.) Is there a " better " brand? Do they include direction on when to apply, ie: what time of the month to start, etc? I know Oprah is doing another show on hormone replacement today. She has not addressed in-store " Natural " creams... are they bio-identical? safe? good? any info is much appreciated. thank you.
Guest guest
I'm a big fan of Dr. John Lee and see him as an authority on the subject. He has numerous eye-opening books out on regaining hormone balance. His site is here: http://www.johnleemd.com You do have to be careful when buying " natural " progesterone - seems to mean different things to different companies. Dr. Lee apparently has his own progesterone cream out now, but his books give other companies that have the kind of natural progesterone you are looking for. One of those companies is here: http://health-science.com/ Before you start using any hormones you should make sure that your body pH is healthy (not acidic) and you aren't dealing with any kind of candida infection. Both conditions mess with your hormone balance. Resolving these kinds of conditions first could very well make the progesterone supplementation unnecessary. Even with that said, considering the epidemic of estrogen dominance going on and all the problems that go on with that, supplementation is certainly worth looking into. Xenoestrogens are all around us and we can only actively avoid some of them. Good luck! Guest guest
Life-Flo Progesta-Care " used " to have the lowest added and total ingredients, but that may have changed. I use it and was given the name from a friend who is severly allergic to everything under the sun to the point of disability (she can use it). She still uses it so it can't be too bad, but that doesn't mean the ingredients haven't changed over the past 8 years. Worth a look at :0) Dee , " zenlight0029 " <awakened.women wrote: > > Is it safe to purchase Natural Progesterone creams from the Health Food > Store (ie: whole foods, sunflower market, vitamin cottage, etc.) > > Is there a " better " brand? > > Do they include direction on when to apply, ie: what time of the month > to start, etc? > > I know Oprah is doing another show on hormone replacement today. Guest guest
The natural progesterone creams from the health food store are safe and good, but they are not the same thing as bio-identical hormones. It is my understanding that bio-identical hormones require a prescription and a compounding pharmacy to make them. Get a prescription from an MD who is a member of ACAM (http://www.acam.org) or a naturopath. Guest guest
Linda is correct. Progesterone creams you buy in the health food store may or may not be standardized. Some may not even contain any progesterone or they may not be bioavailable. Do you even know for certain that your progesterone levels are low and, if so, how low are they? If you¹re looking for natural hormone replacement, your best best is to have your doctor test your hormone levels and go to a compounding pharmacy for a formulation uniquely designed for you. Yes, it requires a prescription and the good news is that some insurance companies will cover it like any other prescription. They will also pay for your hormone testing.
