What was the reason given? I have been taking acidophilus, bifidus,

and a full-spectrum probiotic for 12 years, and I've never had any

issues. I would be interested to know what this person meant by that.

All they said to me was did you know that pro biotics shouldn't be taken for

long periods of time.  I don't know where they go their info from. So I thought

I'd check into it.  Thanks, Genevive

I did some research, cause I have been eating yogurt everyday for at least 8

years. They are ok, just dont overdo.  Heres what I found:

People who are immunosuppressed should seek medical advice before using

probiotics. It is possible that the probiotic itself may cause a serious

infection. One death was reportedly linked to probiotic use in a person taking

immunosuppressant medication.

Probiotics' side effects, if they occur, tend to be mild and digestive (such as

gas or bloating). More serious effects have been seen in some people. Probiotics

might theoretically cause infections that need to be treated with antibiotics,

especially in people with underlying health conditions. They could also cause

unhealthy metabolic activities, too much stimulation of the immune system, or

gene transfer (insertion of genetic material into a cell).

Carol,

May I know why are you taking full-spectrum Probiotics for last 12

years? Just my academic interest! Has anybody prescribed? For what

reason? You can mail me if you dont wish to write in forum. Please just

for my interest/knowledge.

Thanks,

Paraag
