Studies show that this is a very real possibility. The reason is that regularly wearing a bra prevents lymph drainage and circulation, which can greatly increase the possibility of developing breast cancer. The lymphatic and circulatory systems are responsible for both delivering vital nutrients and clearing out toxins. When the body does not have access to nutrients or when it is under the attack of toxins, cancer may develop.A study published in the European Journal of Cancer studied factors for breast cancer such as breast size and handedness. They discovered that premenopausal women who do not wear bras are less than half as likely to get breast cancer that those who regularly wear a bra. A study conducted by researcher David Moth revealed that even the lightest bras place pressure on the lymphatic system.Other research published in Chronobiology International in 2000 discovered that regular bra wearing decreases the production of melatonin, which is a potent natural antioxidant and the hormone that regulates sleep, boosts the immune system and, incredibly fights aging. Balanced melatonin levels are essential for the body to fight many types of cancer, including breast cancer.Researchers Singer and Grismaijer observed 4,500 women and their bra wearing practices. Women who wore their bras more than 12 hours per day had a 1 in 7 chance of getting breast cancer. 1 out 152 women who wore their bra less than 12 hours a day got breast cancer and an incredibly low 1 out of 168 women who rarely or never wear a bra developed breast cancer. These same researchers studied the indigenous populations of New Zealand and Australia. Guest guest
As far as I'm aware the wearing of a bra for up to 12 hours a day does not appreciably increase the likelihood of cancer - but more than this, evidence appears to suggest, is not advisable. However, it is well known that many women wear bras that are too tight for them and this must surely interfere with the lymph flow. I think this article is slightly alarmist.JonathanJonathan Chamberlain www.fightingcancer.com--- On Thu, 1/15/09, Maria Stathopoulos <mary1kon wrote:Maria Stathopoulos <mary1konRe: Bras Shown to Cause Canceroleander soup Date: Thursday, January 15, 2009, 6:49 AM . Guest guest
An alternative is to get a good quality bra. Jeunnique makes bras that actually support and improve lymph flow. A woman with lumpy breasts will find that the lumps go away. Painful breasts go away and exercise is possible without tearing the breast tissue from bouncing. There is no bounce at all, not when rebounding, running or horseback riding. I don't think that an older woman with sagging breasts is going to get better lymph flow without a bra! If anything the sagging will keep the lymphs in a blocked position too. If you can find a Jeunnique bra fitter in your area you will see what I mean. Breast cancer is far more likely to occur from metal underwires that attract EMF's and poor quality bras that are the wrong size. Jeunnique bras are pricey but worth it and your clothes will fit better too. They will make a chubby person look slimmer. No, I don't sell them but I do use this brand and am very happy with it! They come in ALL sizes and are custom fit. Guest guest
I read a similar study done in Tahiti on breast cancer several years ago. They reported the same results regarding women who wore bras and breast cancer. So this information about bras and breast cancer is not new. I am a r to Dr. David Williams Alternatives newsletter. For women who do wear bras there was a breast-massage technique that Doctor David Williams recommends in his newsletter.: "The following technique will enhance lymphatic drainage from the breast, and go a long way in helping to prevent breast Cancer" "After removing the bra, lie on your bed on your back. Straighten one arm, and raise that arm over your head, allowing it to rest on the bed. (For our purposes, let's presume you raised your right arm first." "Next, using the fingers of your left hand, stimulate the right nipple by rubbing and/or squeezing it, to trigger the release of the hormone, oxytocin, and increase lymph drainage throughout the breast." "After stimulating the nipple for a few minutes, very gently grasp the lower portion of the breast. Using a sort of pumping action, gentlely squeeze and release the breast, gradually moving your hand up toward the outer portion of the breast and armpit area. Continue to "pump" higher into the armpit until you can't go any further." "The idea is not to rub the skin, but to pump the lymph from the breast, into the armpit, and then further up the lymph system, as you grasp small sections of the breast and armpit, and gently squeeze or pump the lymph out of that area." "Continue this pumping procedure for about three minutes, and then switch to the other breast. (Remember to raise the opposite arm over your head). One three-minute sesson on each side, is all it takes."

The Maoris, who are indigenous to New Zealand, are basically fully integrated into mainstream New Zealand life and interestingly have the same chances of developing breast cancer. The aboriginals of Australia on the other hand have not integrated into regular western society and do not regularly wear bras, and have practically no breast cancer. Japanese, Fijians, and many women from other cultures were found to have a significantly higher chance of developing breast cancer when they began wearing bras. It may be interesting to note that a very small proportion of men do develop breast cancer, exactly the same amount as women who go braless! European, Journal of Cancer 1991 ;27(2): 131-5. Guest guest
Well, suppose that means my great fitting underwired bras need to be burned!! Thanks Sharon for recommending a healthy alternative. I do not feel like hanging low or giving myself blackeyes when running upstairs ... Well maybe I am exagerating a litte but boy has 2 pregnancies and subsequent breastfeeding for over a year for both paid it's toll on my breasts. Add gravity to that and I do know what I would do without my " over-shoulder-boulder-holders " . Is it all these famous unnaturally perky limelight breasts that make normal women we need a little lift from our bras which is still infinitely better than those silicone implants?
