Dee,

How is your friend? Has she/he tried massage therapy? I know it would only help

so much but

giving the muscles around the problem disc would help with some of the

discomfort. Again I

would recommend that she/he could try some kind of decompression therapy before

any kind

of surgery.

My SIL has a ruptured cervical disc after an auto accident. She tried cervical

traction (a

type of decompression therapy in a sitting position) and couldn't handle it. She

then resorted

to a spinal block and it has given her some relief. BUT those only last for

limited amounts of

time. When I give her a massage I will take a pillow case and fold it length

wise and wrap the

base of the skull and bring it up over her ears and pull gently holding for a

small amount of

time to help give the disc oxygen rich blood. I do this procedure for several

reasons. I know

from her experience that it is a painful situation.

My thoughts and prayers are with your friend.

inflamed. Some kind of decompression will help but youdo not mention what area

of the spine is involved. > > ~ Melani Holt ~> >
